Avergae cost of a k20a conversion?

well we have our own thing to say and thats what makes us human at the end of the day iam not saying dont i just want to know why , but most people will never go on a race track or a drag strip , the average speed of traffic in london is 11 mph and there are tens of 1000's of speed bumps just to add to it
so i my case i just would be wasting my money

hi, we all know the K20 block is generally better than the B16B... however if i had the cash! i would fit a 'K' on any ek... but not on a '9'!

B16B engine results too nice to give it a swap! :ek9:

right ok, so what about people like me that live in Cornwall where there are minimal cops, minimal speed bumps and some of the most awesome roads in the country?

If you read the title of this thread and my first post you will see I'm not saying i want to swap the b16b i was merely asking the average cost of a conversion....

Thanks to everyone for there input :D

I agree it hasn't got lot of low end power, but think about it, does the DC2 has extreme midrange? Its just 10 lb -ft of torque more nothing exteme really.... And isn't it more or less the same cost to make "equivalent" power increase with the B18C to the B16B?? Where is your book? :blinx:

a 1.8 will respond to mods much more than a 1.6, why do you think we have to have such high compression to run stage 2 cams? a larger engine can make the same power on the same cams with less compression. its just easier imo with a 1.8. also yes it has 10+tq but also 15+hp

So the 1.8 L is perfect? :D My friends 96 DC2 has aftermarket air filter, header and exhaust only. We were going side by side until he shifted in the 3rd gear at 100 km/h where he disappeared :( My mods then were air filter, header, exhaust and 15" Rays TE37s only. So, the experiment says that just a set of superlightened wheels balanced his torque advantage :) From the 3rd gear, his displacement advantage started to work

i was comparing the b16b to a k20 but i got my book out so i'll answer this question too :blinx:  1.8 is not perfect, no motor is perfect but some are better than others. dont forget about the weight advantage you have over the dc2, its not just your wheels, its the whole car. if you put both engines in the same car with the same trans then you would have a definitive test. and the car with the dc2 engine would pull on you in every gear, its larger and has higher compression :p

wen doin a b18c swap in a type r u need the ecu engine an injecters an fuel pump....other than that it will fit straight into a type r.....the k20 is a pricey engine swap...icetronix over here will do it for 8500euro fitted thats wit aftermarket mani an tuned to 220bhp.

You dont need different injectors. And a b18c will work with the ek9 fuel pump just fine.

man, it's 20k+ to do K20A conversion in asia... They all play B-series still overthere.

:nice:

Yes we all have limits and can't all have a K20A...:angry2: 1.8 is enough for me... :D

The reason i'd like to do the K20A is the fact it's a newer engine and the sorts of results and times in the states are very impressive.

Plus it keeps me busy and gives me something to work towards.

It may seem odd to want to buy a EK9 and bin the legendary B16 but i love the look of the car; exterior and interior. Tie that with the dynamics and a fresh 220bhp motor and you have a fantastic car to treasure for a number of years.

You never know i might drive the EK9 and decide the B16 is more than enough, haha!

Thats why they made the FD2...one exception thats it's a sedan. But again, it's a very practical car.. :nice: I want one :D

Have you seen the mugen one? It looks very nice!

I don't want to spend 20k on a car, if i was going to be spending that much it would have to be a TVR or something similar. A friend is getting a T350, very nice machine :)
