Hi, I have been on ek9.org for a few months now and have owned my 2000 ej9 since June, I have already got the exterior exhaust and the engine bay / d14 up to scratch and looking respectable, in the future I want to do an engine swap, I was wondering what peoples opinions were on cost effort performance and all in all value for money when it comes to the different engines, ie. time and money spent doing the conversion compared to the final results. I'm unsure what to invest in.

Your opinions would be appreciated

Thanks

Your best 'Bang for Buck' so to speak will be investing in a sound B18C4 motor with good miles, good condition, getting yourself a turbo kit (race-tech get some good reviews) and enjoy a healthy 300-350bhp with silly torque.

Just my 2 cents.

i did have b18 in mind but i have heard a lot of hype about b16's and k20's, k20's seem like a lot more work mind and a hell of a lot more money.

K20 if your staying all motor wins hands down, but it's a lot of parts and a lot of work.
Your looking at £5k+ easy and that's doing it yourself. Labour is huge if you get it done somewhere.

A b18 does everything a b16 does with added torque, b16 are very gutless out of VTEC and hard work to keep on the boil.

If you wanna go turbo then use a c4, buy a cheap mb6 and break it.
Turbo has its complications however.

All Depends on budget and your aims

Good advise, a turbo is very appealing but I do know there can be a ripple effect of damage if abused / non maintained or incorrectly fitted. Also the amount of up rated part to accompany a good turbo system =£££££££

Turbo c4 is cheaper than a k swap by far, also more potential than a N/A b16 or b18.

I'd buy a b16b or b18c tbh - enjoy 190-200bhp n/a

That'll be enough to transform the car - you'd get them for a 'reasonable' cost and theres no reliability issues if you buy a good one

C4 and turbo wouldn't be 'that' much more. ;)

im thinkin stick to my guns and go B18, wont be for about 2 years .......... hmmmmm maybe 1. is it worth declaring on insurance lol aka how many people actually declare, or would i be a complete idiot to not declare it ???
