Hi All, i am new bird for vtec, cos the budget problem, i been headache for choosing B16A2 or Jdm B18C to swop in my hatch ej6...need to get some opinion...if choosing B18C gsr and change to B18C5 Head, intake manifold, Stock tb and toda b cams...will it get a good performance....?:thanks:

you will get much more techincal answers from the other guys but - i think its just as easy to do either swop but obviously the b18 will be pushing out alot more power and you will get more out of it alot easier than the b16.
i guess it comes down to price? have you had offers of both engines im assuming?

when decidind which motor to buy there is 1 rule buy the most expensive motor with LSD you can afford. you will be happy with any of your choices.

This was what i thinking....but for the compression different will it be a problem? b18c lower than b16a.....

I can only afford buy a b16a or b18c, no matter which one? just go for Lsd???

B18C or C5 will have the LSD anyway. If I were doing such a motor swap, I would go for the b18C over the b16a, even if it took more time to save the money. Its worth it.

ofcourse it matters which one. a b16a is cheaper than a b18c i told ya to buy the more expensive one, that would be the b18c :nice:

go with the B162A it's cheaper the the B18C and more reliable then the b18 yes you are down with the power but at least you can cool down your with the B162A . :D

please explain how a b16a is more reliable than a b18c...

Perhaps he means that the lower displacement makes it more reliable I guess and I think this is not mistaken, it is known that a B16B can rev higher than the B18C5 and this makes it more "reliable" isn't it? Is not a matter of quality but specs.....:win:

how about the gear ratio for b18c??
1st 3.230
2nd 1.900
3rd 1.360

4th 1.034
5th 0.787
final 4.400
comparing to b18c5
1st 3.230
2nd 2.105
3rd 1.458
4th 1.034
5th 0.787
final 4.785

Reliability depends on your mods. The only thing B16A is more reliable, is higher revs and run cooler. If thats your concern then get a B16B. :nice:

yeah thats because its a shorter stroke motor with a better rs ratio but sill i think at factory redline there both equally reliable, also keep in mind if you had a b18c you wouldent have to rev it as high to make power, so it would also be reliable.

Hi All, Thanks for yours suggestion, i think will swap in b16a, start from basic...and also of my budget problem....:p

get the b18c, i swapped my b16b for the b18c5, holly F**k, excuse my french but the power differnce is unreal, it only cost me 600euro to do the swap and that was mostly for labour!!! B16a isn't worth it in my opinion as for an extra 500, maybe not even ya can have the b18c, just another note the lsd is realted to the gearbox and not the engine.. Also 96 spec vs. 98 spec itr are just equally as fast!!
