Just below 3,000rpm i hear a wierd rattle from the exhaust.
And now Vtec doesnt feel as strong and the noise of vtec definatley sound weaker.
What would cause the engine to be down on power?

it could be a lot of things a gloged fuel filter for example...

1.check your spark plugs if they are all the same color etc

when you done your last service ? maybe low oil level ?

2.check timming.
3.check valve lash.

i would start from these then a compression test/leak down test will clear things up.

Sounds like the exhaust baffle has collapsed and is now blocking the flow of exhaust gases

Simple things first, but I do agree about the baffles collapsing.

Also give the car a service if it hasn't been done recently.

just hit each resonator with your hand if it sounds something broken like the rattle you hear replace the resonator.
thought was an engine sound at first...

Mate you need to give more spec info to get a better responce

have you just got the car?

Sorry lee well i recently had a b18c6 conversion from R-motion.

Like today had a bit of hesitation yet again at around 3,000 rpm was just city driving seems to lose all torque for a little bit like it will struggle to go past 3,000rpm when not on full load.
So i pulled my car over gave it a good rev in neutral and then it seemed to work fine again?

Just worried after the amount i spent to get the conversion im worried that something will go wrong with the engine and i wont be able to get it sorted via warranty. Then ill be left in **** creek haha.

Its a pretty much new exhaust system from Prospeed exhausts in Cardiff.

signs of a dying lambda sensor maybe??

whats the milage of the car? is the fault consistent or intermittent? if your exhaust isnt blocked as mentioned. id start to look at the ignition side of things, Plugs, Leads, Dizzy cap etc.

It's got around 90,000 miles.
The strange hesitation/exhaust rattle. Burbled sortoff noise both only seem to happen once car has warmed up to optimum temperature when the engine is cold throttle response is far better and there is no exhaust rattle either.
I'm just worried about the engine I hope we can get to the bottom of it before warranty is up.

I've got the car booked in to pro speed exhaust on Wednesday to check its not the exhaust.
Just odd it only seems to lose power when the engine is warmed up. Definatley not heat soak though.

when i had a misfire,my car would do the same thing. id also check plug wires.

Don't know what the problem is but I can relate to you worrying I recantly brought a b18 from jap performance and the dif on the gearbox started whining and managed to get it replaced before warranty was up they were really good was going to get one from r-motion but found sometimes were hard to get hold of anyway hope it's something simple
