Hi everyone im new on here.
Im picking up an ek9 in a couple of weeks and was looking for some opinions on the best cold air intake for more power on a stock engine?

First off, welcome mate! I'd love to answer your question for you but in reality there is no best!! Each different design has it's pro's & cons.

This topic has been covered more times that I can remember however, so your best bet is to do some research and make your own mind up on it. I know its easier to just throw up a post asking the question but please take a little time to search through the forums and I promise you'll find everything you need to know.

This is probably your best starting point:

Fair point m8, like you said it is easier to throw up a thread asking. I will do some research. What intake have you got? and other mods?

I run the J's Racing C/F intake with a custom heatshield and cold air feed. I like it a lot, looks and sounds sexy as hell, but I suspect that I'd have better gains if using an AEM V2. Due to the amout of rain we get thogh I didn't want my filter sitting so low to the ground..

Your engine bay looks sweet. I have read that the V2 is good but like you said bout the rain we've had loads the last few weeks. From what ive been reading i mite just change the filter and maybe look at the V2 when the weathers a bit better, if it gets better lol. What exhaust system you got?

i run the v2 all year round and have done for over a year, just have to be cafeful when going threw deep water ie dont boot it!

I'd take a B18 intake box, fix a 4" CAI to the box with solid piping and then some more 3" solid piping from airbox to engine, with a good replacement filter.

On my current car I'm gonna try 3" plastic piping CAI to the bumper with a Blox velocity stack and filter.

ive tried pretty much all intakes over the years except the arc box but mugen air box was the best without a doubt.

Got any objective proof for that claim?

I just want an OEM airbox with a replacement filter and a hardpipe from throttle to airbox......and noone will sell me a damn OEM airbox....

simple answer to original question

one designed specifically for your engine and personal requirements from engine

problem with that is cost and finding someone very clever who can do this

ive seen mugen intake dyno tested, gains were absolute minimal, its designed for certain engine with certain setup, engine it was tested on wasnt from this expected model setup mugen makes it for

I'll prob just end up modding the standard airbox, sounds like the better option from what ive read and certainly the cheapest.

i gained from it not much but at least i gained unlike others i tried and car was smoother through rev range.only intake that suited any of the various set ups i had other than stock with a cold air feed.

i used to have a AEM V2 (i dont thing AEM makes them anymore) and there is a slight boost in the midrange. and i loved the way it made the engine sound.
my next CAI is gonna be a AEM Hybrid. I will give a review and (hopefully) dyno numbers when i do
