I need some advice on what tires for my set up and since i dont have any knowledge of tires i need some advice. I have a b16 with a fidanza 3.4kg flywheel with a 96spec s80 with a mfactory 4.7fd and an ats short 3/4/5 and 15inch wheels. The car is gonna be used mainly fast road and the odd drag race. Ive heard that toyo r888s are good but dont last long so im looking for some opinions on what to go for as i dont think the firestones on the car will be up to the job with this new box.

Thanks for the link.. what are these like for grip ive no personal experience of them?? Did a quick search they seem to last a good while too

I have no experience with these personally but I know a few people who run them and highly rate them!

Spoke with my mate "Ally138" off here last night who recently put these on and said they are amazing sticks like glue!

My other friend who is building a 290bhp starlet is ordering these as well as the tuner told him they are probably one of the best tyres to buy for road/track use.

Ment to be a bit dodgy in the wet of course :p

I think all the road/track tires are a bit dodgy in the wet to be fair so that doesnt really worry me too much its just i heard with my gearing and the flywheel ill be struggling to get grip at times so im looking to upgrade my tires at the same time

AD08s are excellent

even in the wet they are a very good tyre you just need to know the limits

you wont be disappointed

What's top speed in 5th?
I've gt b18 with 4.9fd on stock s4c ratios and my t1r road tyres handle that pretty well.

I don't see how the gearbox makes any difference to the tyres.

AD08s are the default answer. Superb tyres.

Was thinking along the lines of shorter gearing/more acceleration extra stress on tyres?

120.7 mph @ 8500 limit or 130.4mph @ 9200 rpm according to the info supplied to me by ats itself. I was thinking along the lines of jesse888 i know that shorter gearing wont cause excessive wheelspin etc etc but im just looking for the opinions of on the best tire available because general wear and tear on the tires will incresse due to the shorter gearing. And i also just want someyhing thats quick to 100 and planted in the corners.

It's not going to affect the tyres, don't worry. The increase in wheel torque with short gearing is equivalent to maybe 5-10lbft flywheel torque at most. The speeds are irrelevant, you wheels are spinning at the same speed at 120mph regardless of what the gearing is.

ad08s are great tyres. have them on my ek4 which is used in all weather and have no complaints. theres plenty of info about them on this site, best info around :)

oh i meant to say if you have heavy wheels do not get the 55's, they weigh alot in my opinion and hold the car back a bit.

im changing my wheels as a result (my wheels weigh 7.26kg a wheel and i noticed acceleration loss)

probably will get 50's next time round :)

With a b16b this is the case, I went from 50 to 55 with a b20 due to the gears being too short.
