Getting alot of smoke from my exhaust whilst in boost.

I thought it was just the engine being knackered. Had a search about and it can also be due to it running rich or turbo seals.

If it was running rich could that be fixed by having it tuned again? How hard is it to change the turbo seals? Could someone with little experience do it? Also, I do not have an oil catch can, would fitting one of these reduce it atall?

Cheers

if its the black smoke it wouldn't be turbo seals me thinks sounds like its running rich and yes a tune should address the issue

Turbo seals would usually be blue smoke mate. Could be running rich, would take it somewhere who does tuning and get them to make sure its all set up ok

Cheers. I've had the car in for tweaks on the tune so many times. They mentioned the last time it was in that's its putting out a fair bit of black smoke. Can't see why they wouldn't of sorted if they could.

Pull the intake pipe and downpipe off and check for oil. Check the turbo's shaft play as well.

who is your tuner

if it is blowing black smoke due to over fueling and they didn't fix the map then its time to take your car elsewhere

Black smoke is fuel. It could be isolated to a single injector but is more likely to be them all.

What AFR was the car running? Does it say on the dyno graph? Only time black smoke is "ok" is on the rev limiter really. Of course it depends how much smoke you are talking about. A small amount can be ok on certain cars.

I never got a printout so i cant say, ill try emailing them to see if they will send it over to me.

Its quite alot of smoke tbh. Can see it through my rear window, even with it being tinted. People always comment on how much comes out.

It's one of those things. I only noticed it when someone mentioned it to me. So as far as I know it just happened. But the car was in having the map tweaked quite often to sort various problems out with idling and what not. Just after I was told by a mate that the smoke was looking bad, it went in for some work, new dizzy, plugs, leads... And this was to solve a problem with it hesitating. When they did the work it went on the Dyno for some tweaks, I don't know what. But that solved the hesitating, but when I picked it up they said that its putting out black smoke. That's why I thought it wasn't something they have done.

I drive it almost every weekend. I do give it some at times but its not constant as say on a track session. But every time I drive it I do give it a good blast, be it a short one.

Always warm it up before hand too, and never turn it off straight after a fast drive.

Spelling is horrible in this, in work on my phone though!
