i just finished building my ls vtec and blew the piston rings :angry2:
i was racing a g35 as i was pulling away shifting into 4th gear the car just broke loose and i couldnt see nothing out the rear view but smoke:drive:
reason the engine only had about 100 miles on it:angry: next time im gunna wait the recommened 500 miles

we dont break in any of our engines for 500, we just mash on them from 0 :nice: surely something else caused the failure, what internals did you use? what was your bore, did you bore/hone? was the motor na? what did you use for tuning etc...

hmm, so after a rebuild, you saying you can't rev it? Then what about when it's getting tuned on the dyno?

i've always thought you had to wear the engine in slightly for about 1000 miles or so...just dont put it under hard revs.
known a few people to not do this with turbos and blown them in the first few hundred.never for a vtec though.

then how does the tuner get it tuned? For my case, I need to rebuild to 1.8 + cams... :(

there different ideas about this, we dont break in any engines cause obviously we have to tune them up to 9000rpm :nice:

So would it get damaged if it was tuned with the new rebuild?

wen u rebuild an engine they are supposed to be runnig rich if possible for the first 1000miles...50miles service...100miles service..500miles service...1000miles service an get it tuned an the drive it as hard as u want...wearin in an engine is to free it up to be drivin hard if u dont wear it in parts get seized they break can lead to all sorts of problems!!

its the rings i took it apart they siezed walls are still good but im gunna hone them just clean them up a lil. and i had to get rod bearing head gasket and piston rings again cuase i dont wanna reuse them
