As I was coming home on the motorway, doing 70mph obviously :D The carbon skin decided to divorce the fibre glass support frame

It has had a bit of a flex since day one but nothing was different from the loads of times I have been down the motor way for over a year, but i suspect the pressure under the bonnet from the high wind/speed caused the bonding to fail......

Luckily it landed just off the fast lane, swung round and recovered it in 1 piece but the body shop said the stress fractures will always be seen and it will be £150 + to fix so i gave up :nono: Dont think i could trust it again anyway!

SO if you have some flex in your carbon bonnet, get some pins or make sure no air lifts it at the front, or this may happen :angry2:

Gutting mate :( !

I want a carbon bonnet as well, will need to get pins for sure now!

damn that is some bad luck mate

was it only sealed around the edges??? i noticed mine was sealed around the support skeleton when i had to remove part of it to fit my new turbo

Like I said yesterday mate this could only happen to you :wow::eek2:

Let the new changes begin :nice:

holy crap  least carbon isnt heavy enough to crack your wind screen..
still sickening tho

I was going quick enough for it to miss the car completely, could only happen to me :((

Bring on the new plans :p

wow... was worse than I thought the damage was.. what was the make of this bonnet?

never heard of that happening !! not nice thing to happen but if you did get it repaired a set of bonnet pins would really make sure its secure.

i like it

its now lighter and better for lower engine bay temps

No idea, it had a jap sticker on it but the guy i bought it from had no idea neither...... Just make sure the supports are glued too is my advice :nice:

Holy carp! Very luck it didn't smash your screen or worse!

Bonnet catches/pins as standard with carbon bonnets!

Some 3M 490 glue it bk up and get it painted to match your car

I wouldnt have any trust in it no more! And the fibre class frame had to be cut as the bolt holding it on was seized so its fooked now!

Planning on making headunit blanks out the carbon skin as its mostly fine! Try make some money back :nice:

nah its classed as a loss now, as i dont know the manufacturer and it was bought from a mate who doesnt know the manufacturer as it was bought 2nd hand too........

**** happens, move on to the next phase and leave carbon in the past! Bigger and better, things happen for a reason! :nice:

Shame it isn't pre face as otherwise I would have bought that off you....

Just the skin? What can you do with that? the frame had to be cut to get a seized bolt out so the fibreglass frame was not usable! Thats why i plan to cut out blanks for the head units, no other use for it :nerv:

should keep the front bit of the bonnet and make a jazzy carbon bonnet bra! ;)

Still sounds like you got lucky there and no other damage was caused.
