Hi guys

Doubt anyone will have one of these, but has anyone come across any companys in the UK who do them for the EK civic? Not looking for the roof skin, looking for a complete carbon roof.

Thanks.

Andy:nice:

As in removing the roof and replacing it with carbon?
How would that work?

Quite simple really, you just cut the old roof and glue the carbon roof in place. Don't try it without a proper roll cage tho, although carbon is very strong, it doesn't bend like steel but breaks on impact, so if you roll the car the roof will probably just collapse...

OP: Haven't heard of anyone, I'm sure you could have one custom made tho?

There are 2 types apparently:

Skin - remove the sheet metal from the frame and bond he carbon panel onto it.

or

Full roof - Has carbon fibre frame aswell.

I have a full weld in cage so I should be fine. :)

These are easy to get for evo's etc.... just having trouble finding civic ones.

Al have a look into custom ones but I have a feeling thatll cost a fortune, haha.

:nice:

TBH I doubt anyone would be making these for a EK Civic. The cost of a full carbon roof will be into thousands if you have it custom made, and I don't think the demand would be high enough for someone to try to make these in great numbers. Would be cool as **** to have one tho :D And it would certainly help to lower the center of gravity a bit!

Possibly try the US, as there seems to be alot more stuff for the civicover there. Larger market may make it more feasible for a company to produce.

the roof of an ek is just a skin sheet, there are some metal cross beams that are bonded onto it. If you know a CF company surely if they got the metal skin they could make a mould and do a CF panel from that.

I know camtec are desperately trying to get some made, I don't know ETAs but i believe within the next 6 months. Give nuno a PM EK9.org JDM EK9 Honda Civic Type R Forum - View Profile: Nuno@Camtec

Been having a look, nothing yet. But if I get it from there, I then have to pay tax and shipping and factor in the possibility that it might get damaged.

Don't know how easy it would be to get the roof skin separated from the frame without damaging it. I will talk to the guy who will be doing it and see what he says. :nice: but again, was looking for the roof that has the carbon crossbeams too and not just the skin.

I will give them an email now, could be what I'm looking for. Thanks. :nice:

No worries, there was a place in London that mentioned making carbon roofs up a while ago. For some reason I think it's the place that sells Dixcel brake stuff.

Are you only removing the roof skin to have the cage welded in?

Nah, just doing it cos I think it looks amazing! And always wanted to have an actual carbon roof. I am pretty sure they weld it in without removing the roof. :nice:
