Is this oil OK to run on a built motorsport engine? B20Vtec?
I've done a quick search and people mostly run 5w40? It's only going to be used for motorsport events.

No, its way to thick. If your NA then all you need is a good 5W 40.

Brian, that is the oil you should be running. All the other B-series engines in the touring car championship use it.
Im using it too.
Mobil1 would be the better brand though and its easily got through any Halfords store.

I was thinking 10w60 because that's what most of the other Honda guys were running in built B18's even with oil coolers....

the 10w signifys the cold start viscosity and its spot on for most cars in our climate. would need a lower viscosity if you lived in a colder climate... the second number represents its working temp threshold. If its a high tuned engine running higher temps i would be inclined to run the 50 or 60 rated oils. For most normal cars 30 or 40 is more than able. :nice:

rule of thumb the lower w value the thinner the oil on start up and the higher the second number the better the viscosity at running temperature and better resistance to heat breakdown of the oil.

I stick to what i say with it being to thick. That is unless you are running looser clearences than stock & you are seeing really high oil temps. I doubt they be getting that hot in a NA application with a oil cooler. At the very most i'd be advising a decent 10w 50 fully syn.

x2 and if oil temps are getting too high with a oil cooler then your cooler isn't of adequate size.

Are you guys racing in the Arctic?

10/60 really does seem odd.
