Catalytic converter light

I tried the ABS reset found on here, bridging CEL connector, pushing brake pedal, ignition on etc but nothing really happened. But you're right, I could try that...pretty stupid actually that I haven't thought of that before :X

Have reset the ECU by taking the electricity off for 90 minutes at least. Result is that the ABS code is gone BUT the cat light stays on while driving, from the moment the car is started but no CEL code....

hummmmm, your running a cat correct? [have to ask]

Yeah, 96 spec dc2 with stock exhaust. CEL keeps burning with bridge.

What's your Lamda sensor like? That may need replacing.

Or the wires coming out of it may be shorting somewhere. what's your emissions like?

I was thinking of the lambda too, but why is there no CEL ocde then? I don't have a jack atm to get to the lambda :(

Hmmm...strange...never really thought of that. Could just one of those mysteries lol

I have found what it is! Searched with different terms, but on itr-dc2 I found one thread about it, where admins pointed to searching for "cat temp light" and when you do that you find out that many people have had this problem (sensor was eliminated on the 98 spec) and that it's an easy fix:

It's a sensor to your cat for the cat temperature. If your cat gets too hot it lights up. BUT the wires or the sensors stop working properly very often and the light goes on. So that corresponds with my diagnose. The other thing is that this wire is NOT connected to your ECU and the sensor on itself does NOT throw a CEL code! Which also fits my dianose! w00h00! Thought I had to replace 1 or 2 lambda's but I guess not now :D Only have to take the light bulb out of the cluster or do something else.

_JT, thank you for the update. congrats on the solve.

Why does Honda do this...they did the same with the engine coolant temp, there are 2, one goes directly to the dash, the other to the ecu/ecm. So it is possible to have a failed dash and throw no code, or a failed ecu/ecm ect sensor but still get a reading at the dash. I know this now, but I did not prior and caused me to spend a great deal of time tracking it down for no real good reason.

congrats again!

Thanks. Yeah, it's a weird design decission. Especially when you know how much thought and detail has gone into the design of the DC2. But probably an issue that came up only when the car was already in production for some time. Still, you wonder why they haven't taken it out during production.
