hi ive been having a problem with my 9 the last couple of days and now its not drivable at all. me and my mechanic mate carried out a full service inculding beeling all the clutch fluid ect yesterday tryng to solve the problem but it has jus got worse since then even though the engine is running perfectly now.
The actual problem i have is it started off with the clutch feeling quite sticky and juddering when pulling away with it being quite hard to put in to some gear and depending when i was diriving it would not go in to different gear e.g somtimes would not go in to fourth at all and then other 1st and 2nd? since then it has got worse and now when the clutch is fully down it will not engage any gears at all and has to be put in to gear with the car turned off.
I took it to a specalist gearbox rebuilding garage today and my probelm is its goning to cost £200 from them to take the clutch and gearbox out and see whats going on. And then if it is the box a costly bill after that.

Any help welcome

if its intermittently letting you engage gears then you've probly got a big shard of the clutch metal floating around in the basket. Especially if you engage the gears, then start the car and somtimes its trying to go? Seen it before on a couple of occaisions.

New clutch should have you good to go! :nice:
wheres are you based?

thanx mate, erm im in sunny essex lol havent ever seen a 9 round this way before!

the guy that took it out for a for a drive at the garage come back believeing it was in need of a gearbox rebuild ect becuase on the short drive it wouldnt engage 4th at all but would other gears but then trying to drve home nothing would really engage? really juddery when taking off aswel.

just a bit stuck as to where to go from here. because i dont wanna be paying for a gearbox rebuild when theres not alot wrong with

thanx brett

when you put the foot down when in gear does it drive like normall or does it start revving like youve got the clutch in at a certain point?

its jus quite stiff and jerky (not dirty comments plz lol) and will not engage the gears when rolling. feels like im pushing the gear stick in to a brick wall.

I have seen 2 B series engine clutches where the damping springs withing the friction (center) clutch plate have broken up They then got jammed between the center plate and the flywheel causing clutch drag. The other problem is the clutch release bearing can actually wear all the way through the main clutch spring fingers.
1st get a new clutch kit in there. Oh while you are there fit a lightened flywheel. :nice:

Dunx

cheers for all the info... yeah its fine when in gear you can boot it as normal ect. i think a replacement clutch and lightend flywheel is the way foward then. but would it not be good to check the box while its out or while doin the clutch. Also how much should this combo be setting me back for an oem clutch and flywheel fitted?

thanx

box most proably fine sounds exactly the same as when the clutch went on mine a few weeks ago, and also teh same happened on 2 dc2`s i changed the clutches in..
friction disc problems on all of them

cheers guys hopfully touch wood its just the clutch. any idea on the price of an oem clutch kit and lightend flywheel + labour?

Fair trek essex for me lol. Check you dealership price, should be about £200 if youd rather them do it! give them your chassis code when you do it. Probly easiest for yourself and would be your starting poing for prices :nice:

let us know how you get on :nice:

...and dont be handing all your money to 'gearbox gurus' lol

was a bit dubious about the so called gurus aswell seeing as i have no knowledge of the inside of a gearbox let alone a ramp to have a look.

i have a good mate thats a mechanic and has a ramp so i think il be taking it there.

any links where to get the parts cheapest from ??

thanks to everyone whos helped.

get an exedy oem clutch from tegiwa they are about £150 IIRC

Do not get the OE clutch from EXEDY, me and a mate have these. Mine started to make noises after 4000 miles. they are pretty s***

Exedy and OEM clutch are both made by the same factory,

they are both daikin clutches..

as is my spoon clutch which i beleive is just a standard honda clutch in a spoon bag,,

is this the general feeling about them? i have herd you can get dodgy ones off ebay but i thought the exedy ones were all good? has anyone got a link to the cheapest place of the exsact part number?

thanx

also i it now struggles to engage different gears when the car is switched off?

FOr an actual Type-R factory clutch its about $300 / £150 for the lot SHIPPED from a seller I used previously called Bernard Seng. it may be worth getting a quote? Just an option

ok mate fanx il give that a try and whats the best place for a lightend flywheel? what about tegiwa? And also would the problems with the clutch also be related with not being able to engage 4th ect with the engine switched off?

sorry for the questions just really want it sorted it now as i miss driving it.:nice:

Theres no real best place for parts, lots of different suppliers to consider using including tegiwa :nice:

As for the 4th question.... If there is a 4th gear problem, it may have developed from forcing the gears while you had the clutch issue, either way....

..Deal with one problem at a time. Its possible its related but your best changing the clutch and refill with fresh fluids and seeing how it is FIRST. :nice:
