Has anyone put one in an ek?

I saw an EK4 for sale a lil while ago for sale with this done. I've got one and want to put it in my ek. I'm gona need to cut the AC rad mounts but not sure about other fixings. So if anyone could help out that would be great.

Cheers :nice:

Why are you doing this? And are you taking out the AC?

I've got a koyo full width to fit to mine in a couple weeks time

As far as i can see.......

Chop AC brackets
Chop off r/h rad bracket
offer up new rad and mock up where the bracket will be rewelded too
Tack weld bracket and double check position
Weld bracket
Offer up where the upper radiator supports will go
Drill holes where needed on slam panel for the mounts
Secure mounts in place

...sorry, but why would anyone want to do this? Seems to be a bit of work for no gain. What am I missing here.

Standard ek9 radiator is pathetic

Koyo radiator in comparison is double the thickness AT LEAST and also double the width

Oil is cooled by a coolant loop just at the oil filter

so................

Bigger radiator can keep temperatures more stable, both coolant and oil temp. you may say "but does your temp needle move?" this is irrelevant, honda gauge is static, by the time it's moved past half way you've done the damage

Setting up my car for more track work so very worthwhile, also a trip to the nurburgring, 14 miles sitting in vtec got to keep it cool, same reason i'm also heatwrapping the manifold and putting reflective tape on the sump, also reason i'm fitting gauges to keep a better eye on oil/water temps

So if you are able to keep temps more stable when running the car hard then YES there is a gain, oil starts to loose its lubricating properties when it gets too hot, also if temps get too hot this will heat up the IM and intake temps are increased too

Thank you for the information, I am aware of temp control, coolant and oil. Sorry but I was referring more to the work needed to go with wide vs. duel core like the koyo or other brands. Koyo was a simple drop in, slight modification. Over the huge amount of work for the wide radiator.

its only small amount for work for fabricator and good used dc2 rad is lot cheaper than new aftermarket rad, easily understand why people do it

Ah ok

There's a big hole left from where my AC was, rather fit a full width one in to make use of the void !

chopping out 2 redundant brackets and moving 1 other bracket, wouldn't call that an immense amount of work, probably an hour tops :)

I got this in my ek, you need to change the lower part mount and custom make a upper mount.

Cheers for the reply's guys. You've got it in one steve. Mine's soley for track and the AC went a long time ago. The oem dc2 rad is a good bit of kit and like iceman said it's pretty cheep. Cool i'll get the saw out and fire up the welder. I'll take some pics when it's in :)

I put a ITR rad in a EK I converted to B series. Ill get some pics of how its fitted but its pretty much, you have to cut off AC rad brackets and remove both rad brackets then line ITR rad in center, mark where you need brackets to be and weld the brackets in place. As for bracket that holds it in place on top you just make up a custom bracket.

would a koyo 53mm full width dc2 rad able to fit in an ek9 with mugen 4-1 manifold?

I've fittede a Spal 11" slim fan to mine and mocked it up to the car, should have plenty clearance

slim fan looks alot neater and gives you a bit more room in the engine bay to compensate of the width of the radiator :)

I wanna see some pictures! thinking of doing this too

If this help,Mishimoto full size DC2 rad in my EK
