if i replace my standard cat with a straight pipe decat will it make my car louder???

i was in one of the performance shops near me and was asking bout a cat back system and he offered me a deal of a half price decat and free fitting with a skunk2 system. i said i didnt want a decat coz i wanted to keep the car quietish but he said decats dont affect noise. i was always told they do so now i dont know!!!

tl:dr will a decat make a car louder or not???

Well i know for a fact my exhaust increased noise when i removed cat and replaced with a resonated De-cat pipe.

I'd also say it changes exhaust noise !

I even had a baffled decat not just a pipe and it was alot louder.

I've had mine fitted within the last 2 months, it does make it louder but not by a great deal, however i am still running a stock system with the decat.

i found it made it a small bit more raspy not a huge amount louder though

Nah my exhaust isnt raspy at all. Just loud lol.

lol cheers dan. I've heard a few people say that a decat, even the resonated ones can make your system really raspy. I'm a rasp hater though....I'm more into a more deep mellow exhaust note:cool:

Tends to be adjustable cats that make it raspy. Straight pipe make for f'in loud race car volumes and mental VTEC sound but sound a bit poo low down. Bit farty... Resonated is the way forward if you want a decat but i'd keep your cat on. Waste of money imo. Don't think mine feels any different really. Escpecially not on JDM cats anyway.

Dyou think you would notice any gains through mapping after a decat dude?
Say for instance a b18c with I/H/E with a decat and s300 compared to a b18c with the same mods but with the stock cat left in place?

Definitely. Because you'd be mapping the ECU to give it more fuel. The cat would then become a restriction big time. Where as on Stock ECU even my Spoon is running LEAN not good. so i'll be putting my cat on to richen it back up a bit.
