I'm just about to buy a weld in cage for my road/track car and was wonderng if anyone had regrets?

My only concern would really be that if you aren't driving around in a helmet daily then you could smash your own brains out in a crash.

Obv. that's dependent on the design of the cage/your height/harnesses etc.

Personally I could live with a fully caged cage. I'd also make sure the cage is suitable for racing/rallying as you will appeal to a bigger market when selling.

It should be o.k I have a super low seat rail. I've put a deposit down on it now so it better had be :nono:

I'm going to need to be 100 percent sure i wont be wanting to sell the car as mines gonna be a full welded cage. But im pretty sure im going for it now...

Whos doing your one?

My regret on the weld in was the total weight and size tubing used. I could have gone lighter weight, less tubes and smaller diameter but elected to go super stiff and safe. I would do it differently if I could.

My street car has a bolt in cage and I love it for street but its also only the back half of the car and I can feel the chassis flexing.

Hope that helps.

Ah I always wondered what half cages were like..

They are "okay", better over nothing at all. Much easier to enter and exit the car, safer for the driver over a full cage where your head and body parts might come in contact with the cage during an accident.

I took it to a track day to really get a better feel of the half cage bolt in, when compared to my full weld in cage it pales in comparison. I recall thinking while on track "...**** this thing is flexing" Feeling the geometry change is not comforting.

Its second hand but full msa complaint and looks pretty impressive. A friend will be welding it in. I'll get some pictures up when i get home tonight

I dont regret fitting mine, I only have the rear half fitted for now. Still got the front section to fit.

Mine is a bolt in OMP 6 point.

Just be careful of 'dash dodger' cages.

Its not a dash dodger. It comes with a ready cut flocked dash to fit with it

^^^sweet as that is a pain in the rear to get done correctly.

Here you go guys

The last picture is it fitted to the car it was removed from

Nice! You are going to like this one!
Does the door cards still fit? Looks like they will.

It certainly looks the part and its MSA certified for rallying so it must do the job as well. I think I've seen a picture with door cards in and the doors shut. He had carbon door skins in so maybe not!

Enjoy! If the cards no longer fit, its an easy fix with corrugated plastic to replace the cards. In the event or a crash you dont want to get cut up from the metal on the doors without the cards in place.

Yeah it won't be a problem. I do like the standard ek9 door cards though!

I can appreciate the workmanship gone into that dc5 cage but its not very practical for popping out to the shops lol

Yeah that is a fully fledged race car, guess the cage needs to be specific to your needs
