There is nothing worse than a made up rat look imo. Fair enough some old rusty VAG stuff can look good with a natural patina but when you see things like MK5 Golfs with a rusty bonnet it looks so rubbish.

This is on another level of sad though, he's painted his bumpers to look like rust. Pathetic.

its just to get attention and stand out from the rest.
I could imagine driving this around and getting alot of looks.

the rust/colour match for the bumpers is pretty good!

I just can't get into the RAT look at all. Even on old VW's I think it looks hideous.

Each to there own I suppose, certainly not my cup of tea.

RAT seems to be over done now and getting even worse to look at than before as you see it more and more nowadays, Not my taste at all.

Pointless on the teg but imo it looks good on something like this.

just guys trying too hard to be different

100% agree

The "Car Scene" (i hate to call it that btw) is just full of these kids now, no idea about cars or the engineering that went into them, trying so desperately do distinguish themselves from other chino wearing, One Directions look alikes that they have taken to ruining their cars in order to establish some kind of individuality.

Ironically enough all they have managed to achieve is sky high Vehicle Roll Centres due to dramatically Low Offset wheels coupled with excessively low bodies, twisted and rusty arches as a result of DIY arch rolling and probably CAT C worthy damage to their under bodies.

.................and these cars now "Grace" the covers of "Fast - LOOKING - Car" magazine.

I know because I have seen these MAG FEATURED cars in the flesh (I have 3 mates who between them have had 5 full spread fast car features) and they are all DOGS lol

Makes me sad as an Engineer to see these cars ruined by poor kids with too much time, money and too little self identity

Well said. :nice:

Thought shouldn't that be ridiculously low roll centres from excessive lowering?

Low offset wheel drastically higher your roll centre, the lowering of the car somewhat counteracts this but not enough.

so if you have a very low vehicle with VERY wide LOW offset wheels your roll centre will most likely be even higher than standard.

Its the low offset of the wheels coupled with very wide wheels that raises the vehicles roll centre

I'm not sure where you heard that from? Yes, low offset wheel might raise it a bit but only if it was high to begin with, which I am lead to believe double wishbone hondas are not, at least not at the front. Even then, the lowering WILL counteract any slight raise from offset at the extent these guys go to.

I have a edited a little diagram to show the simple principle:

modp_1009_03_oaggressive_wheel_offsetillustration.jpg

If you imagine that the centre of your LOW OFFSET wheels tyre contact patch is where the green dots are you can see that by the time you have traced the lines back to the instant centre the roll centre has increased.

It doesnt seem alot but other factors like wheel Track and axlel width also play a big part so depending on your car the increase could be much greater

Ah yes, fair point but that does look like a slightly exaggerated diagram. I'm not disagreeing that it will raise the RCs but it's not much compared to how much they get lowered with a 3" drop, bearing in mind the RCs will drop faster than the ride height.

What about those people who buy RC adjusters to raise it on purpose? :p

I see your point and you are correct that double wishbone does indeed usually mean lower RC on average but this diagram is in no way to scale it just serves to show the principle.

Without measuring all the suspension hardpoints of your car and using software like ADAMS Car there is no real way to measure whether the amount you have lowered a car would counteract the wide wheel and low offset wheel combination.

As for RC adjusters they are ideal for people who have lowered their cars a lot couple with a very high offset wheel....such as Hondas 98 spec enters which are ET 50!!! This gives a very low RC and this is why many owners purchase RC adjusters.

this is all just general rule of thumb however as I wasn't referring specifically to Hondas I think MX5's suffer greatest at the hands of these "SHOW TUNERS" in terms of vehicle dynamics anyway :)
