i was driving my b16a and could here a funny noise going with the revs of the car then it misfired and cut out, after that it wouldnt start so i got it towed to a friends garage! we check the spark plug and they didnt work, so i had an extra distributor off my old jordan b16a2 ( will this be different from the b16a?). we got that to fit and 1st turn of the key it started and i drove it home. the next day i was driving it and it was running really bad by loosing power and idieling really low, but didnt cut the engine off, any ideas what i should do cheers martin

any check engine lights?

jump the ecu to check for any codes as even if the CEL isnt on there can still be codes

No lights are on, we just took the old 1 off and put the other 1 on I didn't kno there was timing with this, it was ok after it happened then the next day it started playing up. How do I time it up properly?

The car is running with the b16a2 dizzy but its loosing power and has flat points in the revs! What parts of the original dizzy would need replaced if I was 2 fix it does any1 know what usually goes? Or know of any1 who can recondition it thanks

I'm sure I used these guys when I sent my distributor away to get repaired:

Ignition Car Parts

They will basically test it and replace any parts that will need replacing. If you have a fault that only occurs once the engine is up to temperature, they might not find it as the testing is only done at ambient temperatures. I think it was the TDC sensor failing in mine, but they couldn't fault it on the test bed. I still have that old dizzy lying around come to think of it!

With regards to the initial fault; have you pulled the dizzy cap off and checked the contacts? Here's why... I previously bought a replacement dizzy from a seller in the US on eBay, as I didn't want to pay for an OEM one. It ran fine on my vehicle for about 2 weeks, until one time when I was in the middle of an overtaking manouver; I lost all power and had to coast the rest of the overtake and immediately pull into a conveniently placed lay-by. I didn't have any tools with me and was in the middle of nowhere, so the AA bloke had to come out. He pulled the dizzy cap off to find that the rotor retaining screw had come out and smashed the inside of the cap apart, destroying the contacts in the process!
This may not be the issue with your original, but it's maybe worth having a look.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot m8! I took the cap off and there was a bit of corosion but not a lot, could be enough to stop it working right enough! I will try givin it a wee scrape and try it on again! I just left my house and got half a mile away so the car hadn't heated up yet then it misfired then cut out all together in the space of 5 seconds! My brother said its a common fault with hondas! This is my 3rd civic and I have never had a problem. I bought the car and its a 1.4 with a b16a sir2 engine, so I have been told, it is stamped b16a, so not to sure what parts will be the correct ones to get!
