EG: Back to basics build

Thanks for the comments guys. Im putting my heart and soul into this build and im hoping to take it that one step further. Some updates to come shorty so keep an eye on it guys.

that diy frame is soo good. love the orange and purple good luck with the arches

Thanks mate. The frame has made the build so much easier up to now its great not having to jack the car up everytime you want to move it or work underneath :D

So an update on the car front is long overdue! Ive been really busy with work lately etc, But im back on track now!

So i planned on doing the engine work next but i am waiting a reply on some parts i want so i thought i would take the spare time and put it to good use by getting some parts stripped down and sent off for powdercoat.

So first job was to strip the front hubs down, I removed the backing plates and the bottom balljoint first off.

I thought this was going to be a nightmare to remove but with a wire brush to break away the surface rust and a good size hammer they came out no bother.

I then removed the ring which sits in front of the bearing and left the hubs soaking in WD40, I will remove the bearing before powdercoat at my friends garage.

The front backing plates were a little tatty around the edges in some places so to ensure a good finish once they are coated i cleaned the rough edges up with a bench grinder

Now the fronts were out of the way i moved onto the trailing arms.

An impact driver is your best friend when it comes to these screws lol

Once the disc and hub were removed i went on to full strip the arms down.
Removing the backing plates and unwanted ABS lol

Now the arms were pretty much stripped there was one last job i had been dreading, Taking the bushes out! After reading up on the web it didn't seem to bad of a job! And after a few LIGHT-ISH taps with the hammer they just come out!

I have already had some parts done but never got round to putting pictures up, front ARB, Front control arms, battery tray, Subframe support bar, the two L brackets that sit behind the bumper and the two front engine torque mounting brackets.

Top work mate, hoping to get all my suspension replaced over next few weeks!

Thanks again lads, Hopefully should have all of these parts back by tuesday or wed so should be more updates around then.

Also after waiting ages on a shop to get back to me on engine parts i have decided to buy them from a different local place, They are more expensive but they can deffo get them and have yet to mess me around, Im going to start putting weekly payments down on the items and they will get them ordered in once i have paid most of the money (im rubbish at saving so this is the best way)

I don't want to give much away about the full spec of the engine yet, But i will say there is going to be as much dedication going in to that as the rest of the car.

Got a delivery today guys... Just a little teaser of what's to come for the engine ;) ...

Well guys the progress with the car is coming along nicely now, Yesterday i got back most the parts which i put in for shotblast and powdercoat at the start of the week, Minus the Front hubs and 1 Trailing arm, Due to some snapped bolts needing to be removed, Should get them back mon-tues.

Here are the parts which ive got back so far, I stuck with the color scheme of my car with Black, Orange, Purple parts :)

Keep an eye on this guys, Theres some more parts on there way at the moment but ill keep you guys posted when they arrive :)

One of the rear trailing arms which i bought a while back had the captive nut ground off due to difficult removal so i got the place that do my powdercoating to put a new captive nut on, Just for peace of mind really.

Thanks for reading guys, Looking forward to some feedback :thanks:

Love the dedication to making the car like new!! Blasting and powder coating is definitally the way forward...the parts look better than new!

Excellent build up mate!! Top work!

It's funny, me and you seem VERY VERY alike in so many ways its frightening, seriously!

Both seem to want to be absolute perfectionists with our builds and such and virtually some sort of disorder to want everything as clean as possible to start with. Things are so much easier to work on when their spotlessly clean and free of rust/grime!

The only difference is your going for a show type EG I assume and mine is race/kano/N1 type so there's no need as such for arch cutting and that as it'll be rough any way if you see what I mean and covered in decals? But cared for at the same time, its a very fine balance!

What I am doing is I'm oxide blasting the underside of my EG myself and doing a few different stages of coatings underneath to finish up with Waxoyl and Waxoyling all the chassis rails inside. Should protect it immensely.

We're also the same with the powdercoating fetish. I'm exactly the same as people will see in my build very shortly.

We are different in the sense of the wild colour schemes, although I love yours, I'm more under tone and OEM colours but where you have gone for black powdercoat on most of your suspension and chassis parts I have an alternative plan for mine! To stick with the JTCC/N1 race type factory scheme/setup ;)

Hopefully my parts will be going for coating any time now in the next few weeks before Christmas I'm hoping!!

Would love to share ideas and chat dude, as we are definitely very similar in our ways! :))

Thanks guys! As always appreciate the comments.

Yeah that it is mate, Its much easier than getting them blasted then painting them, Because you never get the paint into everywhere and it doesn't look anywhere near as neat!
