ok well im new enough to this site and this could be a repost apoligies in advance :nice:

anyways im looking to get an sir or type r... ek of course but have a few questions??

ive heard type r's are great cars but are over rated in comparsion to the sir.. i know handling is alot better but i do not plan on doing alot of track day (definatly doing a few tho :) ) but in a strait line a type r is not a whole lot faster any have expirience on this???

the main reason for my concern is that type rs are going from 8k to 11k here and an sir is at most 8k

plus on the handling side id be getting coilovers, strutbraces etc so hopefully ill be ok :)

don want to start a war now just any one with expirence on the matter

basically is a type r worth the extra cash on an sir??

thanks

Worths every extra penny! You get a track-ready-car but friendly when daily driven. More powerfull than the sir and better tranny. Imo the combination the ek9 offers: light weight, balanced and swift, clearly is no match for any standard ek4 out there.

thanks man keep the opinions coming.... my logic is if i get ek4 ill have 2k to 3k for mods :)

for the extra 1-2k price difference, you get alot more so well worth it! The type R is clearly faster on straights and corners.

There are EK9's out there for €6k and EK4's for about €5k or less.
As for which is better, i've had EG6, EK4 and EK9 and i'd pick the 9 everyday.....

yeh i got my type r for €6300, 1998, very clean, tax and test, recaros mint, all in all its in very good condition, nice few extras on it too

people seem to forget that an SiR is NOT a TYPE R with 15ps less

most manufacturers just put a bigger engine in and leave it like that but not one single component is the same in either of the two cars, well probably one or two but you get the idea

I often wonder whether it would be worth getting an EK9. I paid £1500 for my EK4, which has uprated suspension, brakes, Quaife diff, lightened flywheel, ASR rear ARB, breathing mods, and a few other bits.

Taking into account the diff and the ARB, I just cannot see that it is going to be worth me spending and extra £4/5k on an EK9.

I can agree that hands down a standard EK9 will trounce a midly/moderately tuned EK4, but taking into account the money I paid for mine, I cannot see that the extra money would be a worthwhile investment.

in the same boat as you surely for 3k you could get a 4 up to or past the standard of a 9

Jesus doesn't anybody read anything? I spent 10k in total on my EK4 the 9 was as good in standard form.

But hey no ones actually going to listen so just buy a EK4 its cheaper and yes put 10 grand into it and your nearly there.

 FFS

HAHAHA take it easy man i listened... i changing my mind every few mins on what car too get :)

probably a 9 tho

as ijwhiteman has said, its not just as simple as bolting expensive parts on to an ek4 to make it on par with and ek9. i have alos had ek4s and until you drive the two, it will be hard to explain/convince the differences.
