Hi there guys recently went on a cruse with a few mates, on the way there was a few road works. we when through them fine but a Few k's down the road one of my mates car flicked up a stone form his tyre and Crack my winscreen. so here is the question is the EK9 winscreen light weight like there big brother DC2R ? I'll be clamming my insurance for the winscreen if it is light weight I'll go with the OEM winscreen if not I'll go just and aftermarket one.

Seemingly they are lightweight. If they are make sure your insurance company put one on because they will try and fit a normal one

Yer they are defo differnt to the UKDM windscreens. I remember Will (ek9turbo) saying he had a chip and the Windscreens where special order from honda only.

Autoglass will try and fit the crappy ones from UKDM and ask them if they do it for the thin moulding. The guys who did mine ****ed it up twice so i they put a thin side moulding on and used alot of sealent. Sounds like a right bodge but it looks the tits and never leaked. Im buying back my old EJ9 next week so il get a pic up for you.

I'll try to get a pic up. It started from a small chip and it started to crack frome there.
oh thanks guys for the quick reply I'll have to get the OEM windscreen order im hopfully my insurance wont be a dick cause the windscreen is going to cost a bit.

Ive still got that chip and related crack on my screen now! the replacement was ordered i think it was 1.5 months ago now?

anyway,,Tim on here had his changed a while ago and got a UK screen. the broken EK9 screen and the UK honda OEM screen was weighted. THe only difference was the UK screen has a thin layer of bond all the way around as it was prepared to go on. and the ek9 one had very little on it. The lighter of the two is the EK9 orig screen.

So there was a recorded difference of 200g but the uk screen had sealant on IIRC.

As for getting an orig. the ek9 screen has a diff part number to the normal civic, they have a slightly different tint when you compare them. Slightly darker tint. the price is the same. But as ive found out it takes them a couple of months to get you one. IF you read through you rinsurance policy in detail, some say 'like for like replacement' of glazing. Hence you have to tell the insurance company their contractual duty. Regardless of cost. although some have a 'ceilign limit' for the glass and you will have to pay the excess. So it cost me £70...or will do when it finally arrives.

what honda NZ is ripping me off then freaken EK9 winscreen cost $3000 OEM from Japan and it takes 2-6months to get here

$3000 = £1166

WTF man!!!???

and I had a chat with my insurance as well they would only replace to a NZ made winscreen I am really gutted

My windscreen is need of replacement now, quite badly damaged full view of the drivers vision :(

Going through the insurance and hopefully they will be nice enough to order one direct from Honda Japan.

I done a bit of research and ETA for delivery from Japan at present is 15th October 2010

I've got another car to use, so not too bothered about the wait... But, would it really notice the difference from the EK9 windscreen going to EK4 windscreen, or just a generic made item manufactured in the UK?

Cheers

Simon
