I have owned a UKDM and two JDM dc2s. Yes, the engine is definitely better than a B16B (it has a higher displacement) but, whilst my UKDM was perfect when I sold it at 110k miles, my two JDMs started just burning oil like crazy at around the 80-90k miles mark, which I would NOT say is particularly high mileage in the Honda world - talking to experts and other owners, it seems to be the thing with B18CRs; you just don't know who owned it, most have had about fifteen previous owners in the UK who never serviced it etc etc. It got to the point where I was having to pour in litres upon litres of oil and I don't think it was the usual stem seals issue alone.
EK9s seem to be way more reliable engine-wise but way more fussy in other areas - steering rack issues, weird things like that, whereas all my DC2s were absolute work horses apart from when the engines started burning oil. I never had other issues and they all just sailed through MOTs year after year and these were daily drivers.
As for how they drive, I don't know, the EK9 seems to be a little bit more "chuckable" and feels a bit more easier to drive with more margin for error, making it feel very safe and fun at the same time. Sometimes the engine and gear ratio is a ballache, if you don't shift up basically on the rev limiter you drop out of VTEC anti-climactically, whereas dc2s don't seem to have that problem.
Overall, I think the ownership experience of my ek9 surpasses that of any other Honda I've owned, but then, I did get quite a nice one.
