ek9 shifter, shorter than ek4?

The base of the dc2 shifter, where it bolts to the linkage, is wider (by about 10mm.) You need to take 8mm off one side and 2mm off another as its slightly off centre.

Time to break out the dremmel!

The problem i've got is i'm not sure about the clearance i've got between the bottom of the shifter and the exhaust so although i'd like a teg one (shorter throw) it may be just that little bit too long. Hence the reason i'm on the hunt for an EK9 one.

I need to get under the car and take some measurements.

i always thought dc2 shared exact same shifter as ek9, both have chrome finish and dual bend, ek4 is just single bend and black and base is different size to dc2 (i havnt compared 1 to ek9 shifter)

what jetblack posted regards size in above post is correct, i run dc2 shifter on ek4 linkage and had it cut to fit, shortens throw slightly

i didnt want any aftermarket shifter (would only consider a C's but rare as compnay no longer around i beleive and lot of £ when they pop up)

you hear so many complaints about aftermarket ones rattling, hitting exhaust etc etc and trying some in some cars there simply too short for my liking, felt very wrong

1 thing i dont like about dc2 shifter (i cant remember if ek4 shifter was same ) is that in 1st, 3rd and 5th the shifter is too far forward ( i have long arms as well)

Would be great to get side by side photos and some measurements of the ek9 vs dc2 shifters.

Anyone got both!?

I also thought the DC2 and EK9 ones were the same shape apart from where it joins the linkage.

Anyone got some pics to compare?

Hi there

Are you saying the buddyclub short shirter have short shifts than the ek9 shifter?

Anyone can can verify this? Is the bc shift too short that might grind the gear teeths? or too low that its touched the exhasut pipe?

Thanks

same... get the buddyclub dual bend if you want shorter shift

Yep buddyclub Racing Spec Shifter is fantastic. Very short shifts, excellent feel when using the buddyclub shift knob, and doesn't rattle on the exhaust. A nice black colour too.

Don't know how they did it, but they did. Buy one, you won't be sorry.

Hihi

Thanks for the advise. I should be getting one but confuse about which one to get. I notice they have the single bend and the dual bend (which one and their difference?).

Also, from this thread I realise the shifter for EK9 and DC2 is different (DC2 need to cut..right?). So how do I know which kind to get. Does it mean that the buddyclub shifter fits both EK9 and DC2 perfectly? By the way, I need one for EK9.

Thanks.

From what I understand the Dual bend sits closer to the driver.

Quite right. The single bend reduces throw more than the dual, but doesn't come as close to the driver as the dual bend.

The difference in shifter throw between the two is 10%.

I have the dual bend as I sit quite far back towards the middle of the car.

You will get better results with any short sifter (and greater shifter feel) if you also install urethane shift mounts, both at the shifter and where the shifter linkage attaches to the gear box.

It's what I like to call a "holy s**t modification". Doesn't add power to the car but for the money (relatively cheap) makes lots of difference and allows you to "connect" with the car a bit better...

Yup....haha....already have both done..now only missing the short shifter....was just wondering....for the buddyclub short shifter....one kind can fit both dc2 and ek9?....or do they have individual model numbers?...if so, how do you differentiate?

Thanks..

Yes, the catalogue lists the short shifter as fitting both EK and DC models.

My NZ catalogue shows the single bend shifter in the picture but the listing is for the dual bend only.

Odd, but a great mod nonetheless.

Finally....got the buddyclub short shifter and managed to put it on my ek9...however not without difficulties. But it is up nevertheless.

There is ,however, a question about the shifter. Is it very stiff after fixing on? I have adjusted the bottom screw to its max already (anymore the locknut will drop out). But still, the shifter seems to be much stiffer as compared to the stock ek9 shifter. Is it suppose to be like that?

Is it actually difficult to change gears? The feel is very solid, but shouldn't actually be harder to push or pull into gear...

come to tink of it...i tink solid is a more appropriate description of my buddyclub shifter. Need more strength but will push or pull into gear...guess i need to boost up my arm muscle instead.....ha
