On a recent "0-60 YAY OR NAH" thread, I asked what the top speed of an ek was meant to be as I couldnt get mine over 130mph, or at least in 5th there was just no power left.

One of the other guys replied and informed me he had a 210kph (130mph) limiter. Upon hearing this I took my car down a long straight which runs downhill and got it over 140mph, but on a flat road upon reaching 130 thats it, no more, invisible barrier. So does that mean it is not limited? Or can the limiter not hold the car under certain pressures i.e a hill?

What kind of speeds are you guys getting out of your car? Have you experienced this problem? And does anyone know a way around it?

Assuming infact, it is not limited. Thanks

Track days only of course :)

And its not necessarily that I want to go over 130 I just want to know what my engine is doing and why?! :nice:

That was me who said 210 km/h. :nice:
Let me give you some tips about what is going on with mine and to most EK9s I know here......
First of all, speaking only for straight roads, your EK9 must have power to speed up in fifth gear unless you have touched your gear ratios(wider) or facing some mechanical problems or extreme engine wear........
Secondly, keep in mind that speed limiter feels exactly the same like rpm limiter (the car kicks repeatedly the same way) so if you haven't noticed any kick that means either you don't have speed limiter or you didn't reach the speed to enable it :nice:
But you said that you have reached 140 mph (225 kph) so most probably you do not have a speed limiter. Usually EK9s have the speed limiter near the "R" on the clock which is around 210 km/h.
On the other hand, the speed you have reached in straight road is not normal. Stock EK9 makes at least 230 km/h top speed in flat road :nice:

your just running out of power, i was able to reach 140mph on a straight but mine is modded and tuned and my car is much lighter than standard ek9.

(when i was NA)

Hmm i really don't know, but check out my car going almost top speed, I had like 2000 RPM more to play with lol
We are talking about completely untouched EK9s!! Yours is modded

Nice vid :D

Im not sure ...... see, the guy that owned it before me lived in belfast city center, and he saidhimself he drove 2miles to work every day and 2miles back, that was it. He was older so no cruises, long drives, late night rallies about country roads etc.

Do you think if that is the case, the engine might need breaking in above a certain speed, like with a new car? There only is 50k miles on the clock. I know thats far from a new car, but he had it since 20k odd. I don't think/hope its because of engine wear.

As well as that, do you think I might just need a slightly longer straight?

Hmm not sure. Thanks for the input so far guys :nice:

If the car has not been abused by the previous owner(s) and now has less than 100,000 kms as you say then is like new. The B16B engine has incredible duration!!
Also a longer straight won't help if you realize that there is no power left to push the car :)

Em has no one seen the vid of my ek4?? Its standard top speed in that video is 145mph i've had the needle for the speedo pointing right down before too so i'm pretty sure there is something wrong with your EK9 - as my VTi hits 140 with ease even uphill

I will get a video of it tonight and post 2mro so hopefully we can fiqure out if there is something wrong, leave it with me until 2mro and then I will repost!

Thanks boys! :)

Hmmm
Sorry to bump up like a 2 year old thread.
But wtf?

My stock (has exhaust ) em1 ( ek4 coupe basically ) would hit 140mph easily ( at close to 8000rpm)

So thats 25hp less.
Slightly less torque.
Probably quite a bit heavier.
Longer ratios.
cheapo 95ron uk fuel

I bet it would go to 145 , maybe 150.

If a de-restricted ek9 cant hit 140, why can mine exceed that

230kph are easily achieved by a vti. The issue is how long does it take to go there. besides gauges lie.

I think this is something that needs to be addressed since in the recent "Official EK4 -EK9 Comparison thread" we have this:

Stats

Standard spec for Honda Civic VTI EK4

Engine Size – 1595cc
Cylinders – 4
0-60 mph – 7.9 secs
Power Output – 157 bhp
Torque - 151 Nm
Top Speed – 129 mph
Weight – 1260 kg

128mph top speed from the B16 a2?? how come ive had it up 2 140? no problem at all??

if read on speedo, then it is inaccurate. use an extenal device, if not already done so, directly to/from the ecu for a more precise figure

I would like to know for sure what the truth is here....

rpm : gearing doesnt lie :)

but it does my friend. rpm gauges lie as well. my friend`s EG6 with me behind the wheel and him co-driving, made 230+ kph (142mph) on the clock and hit the rev limiter as well precisely on 8K rpm`s. BUT took its time once into 5th...

I've had mine off the clock at 145mph (yes on the motorway too, shoot me :) ) but I would estime the actualy speed to be around 125mph.

My speedo is widly inaccurate, even at low speeds.

What size wheels and tyres do you have?

I don't get it, I thought speedos are supposed to be accurate if its stock. Are people just saying its inaccurate when its nearing the top speed or something? If not isn't it a problem when it comes to speed cameras?
