I am in the process of buying parts for my b16a2 turbo build! My ek4 has got 110k on the clock! I think it wud be wise to replace the bearings but im not sure which ones as acl names main bearings thrust bearings n so on! Can anybody tell me which ones are acl best for the job

most people say to avoid their race bearing and just use the duraglide ones. you would be after main bearings as thrust bearing are used in the hubs not the crank? whoever is doing the work make sure they plastigauge the crank after and confirm its all within tolerences?

Personally, i would remove your OEM bearings and if they are within factory specifications i would put them back in.
If it aint broke, then dont fix it.

If you do need to replace a bearing or two, i would use Genuine Honda bearings as you can get them in various sizes to suit what you need.

That was exactly what i was thinking. If theres nothing wrong with them then there's no point changing them. Stick with OEM if you do decide to change any though. Like i've said time and time again, ACL race bearings are to hard. The engine need to be 100% spotless if you want to use them.

Make sure you plastigauge all journals !!!

Thanks alot guys I have eagle rods an wiesco pistons so just a set of main bearings I need to buy now! I think I'll buy original oem Honda bearings but will they be ok?? I mean I ain't going for crazy horsepower just like 300-350 something like that!

If anything i'd keep the mains and change the rods. Honda bearings are the best bearings money can buy.

I just don't want to go to all the hassle of engine rebel then to find 2 weeks later a bearing has gone! Just rang Honda in Bradford and they dnt have parts for cars older than 2001! Wer can I get Honda mAin bearings?

Why is it so hard in europe to get bearings for civics?

Get them from AcuraOemParts.com, try emailing them. Your Honda dealer is talking out of his ass. They can get them BUT there over £20 per half +vat.

BTW, bearings don't just fail for no reason. If theres something not right they will fail either way.

I sort of agree with you only which ever bearings you use the components should be spotless if you want the engine to last, also there are better ways to measure things than using plastigauge.

Yep mate, what i was trying to get at if anything does pass though the oil it will score the crank and not the bearing (because the bearing is so hard). See what i'm saying ? Honda OEM bearing will either score or the debrit will embed onto the bearing surface.

I agree with the measuring to, but your avarage DIY guy isnt going to have access to a dial bore gauge. From my experience as long the journals are not out of round, plastigauge works well. In a real world though plastigauge should be used last just to confirm/check clearences. :nice:
