gearbox oil

I was wundering if some of you EK9 drivers also have experience with MG Rover MTF Fluid? They had that fluid specially made for the BRM transmission that helds a torsen lsd diff. that is comparable with the Honda torsen diff in S4C.

According to my data, the gear oil used in the Rover 200 BRM was the standard Rover MTF 94, same stuff as would go in a Rover 25 1.4 etc. A lot of gearbox mounted LSDs aren't overly fussy about the oil that they use, but they can degrade the oil quicker than a normal gearbox. It's only really some of the aftermarket diffs that cause problems with the oil.

Cheers

Honda mtf is the best if running stock gearbox. Used the redline stuff years ago gear changes felt stiffer. Changed to honda stuff it felt so smooth after.

Yes, the Rover MTF 94 indeed and in the spec of that oil it has this particular line:

- MTF-94 is also specifically recommended for Honda manual transmissions, particularly where the Honda MTF-7289 specification is called for.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
API GL-4
Rover Group
MTF-94; R380, PG1 & H gearbox approvals
Honda MTF-7289
MG PG1 gearbox approval
p/n STC9158

Full Synthetic 75W80 GL-4

Now when you go to Honda you will find this:

75W-80/10W-30 GL-3/4 Manual Transmission Fluid - Honda MTF
Honda MTF 94
Honda MTF 7289
Honda MTF 4928271
Honda MTF 8429094
Honda MTF 08798‐9016
Superseded by Honda MTF III

Honda MTF III:

75W GL-3 Manual Transmission Fluid - Honda MTF III
New for i - Shift (+ All Honda Manual Transmissions)

Honda MTF III 08798‐9031
Honda MTF III 08798‐9031A
Honda MTF III 08798‐9031C
Honda MTF III Ultra 08261‐99964
Honda MTF III Ultra 08261‐99967
Honda MTF III 08267‐99908‐HE

Use GL-4 MTF and synchromesh fluids as suitable superior replacements.

Conclusion of the above:

OEM Rover MTF-94 is/was the same as Honda MTF 7289 which is superceeded by and backwards compatible with Honda MTF III and already GL-4 spec.

Reason why I find it interesting is because I can find those Rover MTF bottles in 2,5L for about the same price as 1L Honda MTF :)
