gearbox question??

Yeah, that would be down to the engagement type (i.e Synchro vs Dog) more than anything. Nothing really much we can do about that unfortunately :(

I do agree with you though, for a 100% race car, and where rules allow, dog engagement is the way to go :)

We do actually have a longer first gear (both 3.070 and 2.786 are available) :)

For the Axles, the axle shaft doesn't usually fail too much, it tends to be the outer CV splines that strip. When the shaft does fail, the "snap" is usually on the outer CV side.

Is their any plans to make a straight cut gearbox? I know of a few people that have chosen the quaife gearbox over the mfactory for that reason. I had 2 driveshafts break on my rally car both where the outer cv cage basically exploded. Problem now solved though with big GKN outer CV's.

All of our new close ratio gears are straight-cut (still synchro engagement though); we designed these specifically for the Rally market, and are being tested by a few Irish rally cars at the moment :)

For our dog gears, for B-Series, these are only available in 4spd for the drag racing market. For the K-Series, we have them available in 6spd for the road/race market.

yeah, exploding cv's aren't very good. We actually have uprated axles as well (rated to 400whp) which are Forged, 6 Ball (instead of tripod) and around 10% larger than the oem cv. We've only tested these with Drag Racing and Circuit Racing though, not tested them on a Rally car yet.

We have a car that will be testing them shortly. The axles were only just released, so he hasn't received them yet.

That's the exact gearbox setup I have in a road civic. TBH it's makes a nice difference but 5th is still a little too tall for a rally car IMO. A 1.000 5th and 4.7FD would be better or even better again a 4.9FD. Your probably only going to be hitting around 120mph on most stages anyway correct? What's your engine spec? Power output?

ah right so i take it that the s4c/y21 gears 4th/5th will fit the s80 box thats v handy to no..yes 110-115 max..im running a standard b16b think its 185bhp standard everything for the moment ya no..what are you running in your road car if you dont mind me asking?

Exactly, that is what you heard, not what you have personally experienced.

Actually, we replaced every single close gear under warranty that had this manufacturing issue. We didn't give 2 fingers to anyone, and anyone that has contacted us directly (i.e Not through DMRR) that had this issue with the close gears knows this. Those in the past who were given the 2 fingers by DMRR (i.e not us) but then contacted us directly have had their issues resolved. However, this side of the story never gets told, it's always the negative side that gets passed down the grapevine.

We have NEVER ignored a customer who has contacted us directly about an issue, regardless of what the issue is. If the issue is our fault, then we stand by our product and do what it necessary. If it is not clear what the issue is, then we will start asking questions to diagnose the problem; this is where the customer then starts getting angry and personal i.e they don't like to be "at fault" and just want a free replacement

There have been times where we have refused to warranty a part, yes, but these cases are entirely different from this "manufacturing defect", but of course, a customer will never be happy if they don't get their way, so the "bad reports" end up spreading like wildfire.

If one thing bad happens, everything that happens is lumped together as the "same issue". Then it gets told to a friend, which gets told to another friend, then told to another friend. And before you know it, we have statements like yours posted up on internet forums ;)

You are correct, we have been in business for a good few years now and are well established. We didn't get this way by being the same company that you "claim" we are, and we most certainly would not have been chosen by Honda of America to partner with.

At the end of the day, you can either listen to the "good reports" from extremely happy customers which tend to be unskewed and unbiased (there are plenty of these on EK9.org and ITR-DC2.com), or you can listen to these "bad reports" which are mostly just chinese whispers and do not tell the full story ;)

we could be argueing all day/knight over this issue,i personally wouldnt deal with m factory, ive just heard bad reports with anybody ive asked for advice on gearkits here in ireland and uk so its a no go for me.

Not everybody, infact, you were given advice in this exact thread by fellow members that you had "asked" for advice from. EK9.org is primarily a UK forum, and all you'll hear on here is good reports :)

Anyways, your opinion is just that, your opinion, and you have every right to it. All I'm doing is sharing with you the "other side of the story" :)

No harm done, we are all friends on this forum.

Well, we use an MFactory close gear kit in our EK9 in UK tarmac rallies and it's taken all the abuse it's had thrown at it without any complaints for a whole season; if that isn't testament enough to their quality and reliability I don't know what is....

As MFactory says, chinese whispers about problems spread a hundred-fold faster than the positives even if the positives are the overwhelming majority.

As said earlier about the driveshafts, we had one snap and it caused alot of trouble during the day so we bought uprated custom made ones and haven't had a problem since. The cost isn't alot when you consider how much has to be spent on entries, tyres, petrol etc. to have the day ruined by a broken driveshaft and lose out, like we did, on a class position.

Yes they fit fine. Standard exhaust and intake? Not likely to make 185bhp with no aftermarket parts and running our fuel over here.

It's a 1.4 swapped b16a with the mentioned gearbox, has Ek9 catback, Top Fuel induction kit and a custom tuned ecu by myself. Pulls well for a pretty much stock setup.
