gearbox specalist/rebuilder in scotland

As the title suggests im about to buy the m factory gearset for my car but before doing so want to find somewhere that could fit the set for me and also get some quotes.

Im in Ayrshire on the west coast but have no probs traveling to glasgow/lanarkshire and the surrounding area if anyone knows a good garage.

Ive checked online and the yellow pages etc and see there is alot of 'gearbox repair garages' but looking to see if anyone has any experience with anyone?

Know theres a few scottish members on here so hopefully someone will know

What kind of price im i looking at to get the box out, swap the gear set over and refit ?

alright mate, yeah i`ve had the mfactory 4.9 final drive for a while waitin to go in. Kinda in the same boat as you i know of places that will do it but the gearbox has to be removed and taken to them which is fine but the thought of rollin about in my lane doin it ain`t good lol, used to be a mechanic for arnold clark and we used a company called "top gear" to do the box rebuilds for us and they are good but as i say the box has to be removed 1st before they will touch it. Shouldn`t cost anymore than 100-200 quid to do it but again thats an estimate and will differ at different places. Good luck hunting and keep us posted

we use tayside transmissions in dundee only thing is u would need to get it taken out your car and sent to them .

so it sounds like most places want the gearbox sent to them before they will touch it like most of us im guesing would prefer to just drop the car off get the work done and then pick the car up, saves the car being off the road for long and like you said gav round my way as well i wouldnt want the car just sitting about lol

im going to be phoning round a few places in the next couple of days and see if there is anywhere that would be able to do that, get a few prices.

mine was just a rough guess mate and i don`t work in the motor trade anymore sadly( lol let us know how you get on, need to get my arse in gear and get mine in soon as well.
