I'm Looking for opinions. I'm getting a block built now over the next few weeks. Complete rebuild, pistons, rods, bearing... I'm going to try get a head from a b16b, or b18c5 instead of breaking my own engine, is there any work I should be getting done on the head?? It's going to have to cope with 300bhp+.

Decent port+polish, tri-cut the valves. Port matching the TB and Intake manifold will also help reduce spool times.

Only my 2 cents, i'm no expert

all the above really, but not toally necessary. Could go as far as stainless steel valves and bronze valve guides. for higher revving use dual valve springs and titanium retainers.

Im running a pretty stock/unmolested B18C head, only recieved a tolerance skim, standard valves, standard guides. No issues this time and is 450hp on high boost.

I'd prefer to use b16b cams but I'll need to see what's around. Cheers for the help. I'll see how much the machine wants for the work on the head. I'll ask him for his advice too. He's more a safe head than power driven. Which is good. What turbo you running to get 450??

its B16B cams im running, and a precision sc61 turbo. Safety first ;)

I'm going to be running a blitz k26 so I doubt I'll be getting up to the 450 mark any time soon

Leave the head work and concentrate on reliability... like decent valves/springs/retainers/keepers ect...

OEM type r valves are more than up to the job as are the valve springs/retainers unless you want to spin it to +8800rpm. Perhaps get the valves lapped and vacuum checked to in sure there sealing 100%. Keep your b16b cams and get some adjustable cam gears and have your tuner adjust them on the dyno, I've picked up 20bhp on a boosted setup by adjusting the cam gears to remove some overlap(widen the LSA)

Would type r ones not be up to the job?

It depends on there condition and what they've been through. Specially the ex valves and springs as they take the most stick from the heat whats been thrown at them. New ones would be more than upto the task like vtec6000 says.

I'd say don't worry about Porting the head, oversized valves, cams ext. for your power goals just do dual springs, and retainers. If the head has some serious miles on it maybe think about new valves and seats.

This^^^^^^The stock b16 head flows 260-270cfm from stock, people regulary make 700hp on itr/ctr cams and stock head. Save the money for a decent clutch.
