Well, las night i notice my subframe has a tear where the swaybar mounts.
As some might know, my car is a EK4 converted to EK9.

http://www.ek9.org/forum/members-rides/17315-pics-work-my-ek-has-gone-through-since-bought.html

When i bought it it was already with the EK9 swaybar, and never got to buy the ASR subframe reinforcement kit (was going to do it next month).

The thing is las night after installing my header and noticing som difference in the car height at the back (from side to side) i noticed the tear. Has a Beaks kit i got last week to use while importing and having fund for the ASR.

So now the question is, HOW should i fix it?
Shouls i fix it and made it stronger and forget the asr brace?

Please help in here!!!!

UPDATED 07/12/09 - Pics of the subframe.....
Drivers side (LHD) is the one broken. On the other pic you see the mounting brakcet used (EK4 adapted) and on the other the piece that has come off.

the ASR was always recommended to non ek9 chassis as they tear easily under hard cornering

Yeah I know but i bought it without it and for sure had too mauch time pass without buying one. Car hasnt been driven or cornereed hard but it tore. Anyways.
Now im looking for the solution. I know I should have bought the ASR before but didnt ant time cant beturned back.
Help anyone?

replace subframe

x2, weld in an ek9 subframe.

I would love to do that, but thats gonna be tough one. We dont have many ek9 in here, maybe a handfull, and of those 3 are racing cars, so locally I dont think i can find one.

I was talking to iceman last week abuut this and he pointed me towards autodynamics, and i think price is reasonable, but the shipping charges to here (south america) makes it almost the double.

Im thinking about repairing it and either buy an ASR for around U$250.00 (costs 175 + 75 shipping to peru), or repairing it and custom reinforcing it. Meanwhile I unmounted the swaybar yesterday so the endliks and right side of the subframe dont suffer (tearout was on left side - drivers side), and was looking how to reinforceit.
If i go this route its gonna be worked by a shop that makes roll cages and chassis reinforcement for race cars, and all should be seamwelded. My only concern in this case is weight increase but i dont think it would be so much.

What do you both think?

if you think they can repair very well then get that done but get reinforcdement done at same time by them

Get some custom plates made and weld them onto the subframe. Drill holes in the plates where the swaybar needs to go, and then use adjustable endlinks.

I have not tried this, but I really don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thats qht im thinking. Dont know why it souldnt work.
But let me know why use adjustable endlinks?
I have the oem ones......

Thanks

Could you post some pics of the damage. The proper way to repair a crack is to drill the ends to stop the crack spreading agian after its welded. Make sure that the shop do this.

beaks bar is just for looks
btw what sway bar you run at the front ?

using a 26mm ek9 sway bar with no reinforcement on the front this also could be done ?

sorry no pics
i think ek9 use the same size sway bar as ek4 vti at front and it's 26mm
ek3 uses 22mm at front..

that depends on year. all 99-00 had 26mm front sway bar. 96-98 dseries had 22/23mm

shame i didnt know before, i could have cut out subframe from ek9 i broke and sent to you cheap, i would have just sent as gift so no taxes

make sure repair is precise, asr will make more sense in your situation
