Hello i am new to hondas and am away to buy a ek9 type r but when i type the reg of this car into my insurance it comes up honda civic vti and if i type in the reg of another ek9 it comes up honda civic type r? The one i am away to buy has the same rocker cover ,seats and type r decals but is it really a type r or a ek9?

the way to tell is check the VIN number on the bulkhead and the Vin plate on the slam pannel, it will be shorter than a uk Vin numer. it should be EK9- ******* (7 numbers) i know its possible to change this but you would be able to tell.

Thank guys the car is 180 miles away so cant really check the vin just now do the type r engine and the vti engine look the same or are thay the same ?

Tbh the fact you had to ask the above questions i would take someone with you to look at it, that knows what they are looking at..

Many Vti's have had the B16B engine fitted.. and then the spoliers seats and such, but these are worth half of what the Ek9's are worth..

Make sure you do alot of research before giving over any money.

I mean no offence by what i say mate, just hate to see new guys ripped off.. :nice:

Maybe put a shout out on here to see if any members will have a look at it for you who live close ? i did this with an EK4 that was 300 miles away from me, he gave it such a good review i bought it without looking and was very happy..

It's possible that it was registered wrong when it was imported, have seen this before when I was looking for one

Buy mine! It's on pistonheads now. One of the nicest EK9's about IMO with a B18C6.. Quick.

The lad sent me a pic of vin plate ek9100xxxx and he is taking it to me also my mate in coming round so we can have a good look over her, hes civic mad so should all be good fingers crossed.

make sure the wheels are 5 stud too, ek4's are only 4 stud! lights obviously are black tinted and the chasis number just at the back wall of the engine bay will have the EK9 written there.

engine numbers can be forged, i actually know a guy who does it :/ terrible way to make money but get rich or die tryin ya kno?

Im sure there must have been alot of dodgey info given when some 9's were imported. My insurance classes it is a type R but running a HPI check is hilarious, my car is apparently a Honda CBR1100 bike or something like that? Weird!

Mines says vti on logbook, but i have insured it as import type-r
