Well just got back from my second Hillclimb with my EK9 and guess what .......... New class record!!

Smashed the existing class record by a full second which was set by a well modded CRX and Im only just getting used to FWD having raced Escorts for 25 years.

I love this little thing it is a superb bit of Japanese engineering.:))

I bought it to use as an every day car that one of my daughters could use to compete at local Speed events here in Guernsey, she currently shares a Fiesta XR2 Mod saloon with her twin sister. The trouble is one is a LOT quicker than the other so I thought I would try and eliminate some of the rivallry by putting them in seperate cars.
We are back out on Saturday for another hillclimb so I will report back.

So far ........
1st event:- G.K.M.C Hillclimb. Class record was 39.73s (rapid Saxo) record now 38.31s EK9!! Record broken by 1.42 secs.

2nd event:-G.M.C.C.C Hillclimb. Class record was 39.05 (well modded CRX) record now 38.04s EK9!! Record broken by 1.01 secs

EK9's rock!!

Brilliant work there mate, they are well suited to this sort of competition!

Cheers guys, unfortunately I didn't have any onboard footage as both my cameras are still fitted in my other race car but I have a few photo's I can post if you like. I will however try and get one fitted for the next race meeting which is this coming Saturday.

I'd like to see that!

Is your car standard?

Is your car standard?

The car has BC coilovers a stainless exhaust and cheap 4 into 1 header (fitted by previous owner) a panel filter in the original airbox plus a Spoon ecu with revised rev and vtec settings. Apart from that it is stock. I even leave the spare in!! Oh and I weigh 158kg. :))
(It's the windy window / no rear wiper model)

I have however been racing tarmac speed events for 23+ years though in a 1300cc Mk2 Escort but this is the first time I have raced a FWD car in anger.

I have gotta say I love this little car, well balanced and boy what an engine!!

No ek9s have rear wipers.
I assume you mean the poverty spec with no air bags/elec mirrors/abs/elec windows? :)
Same as mine :D

It's nice to hear a RWD racing vetran sign the praises of the little pocket rocket EK9, that's for sure!

Congratulations:nice:
Video would be great. Often wondered whether anybody on here used their EK9 for hillclimb events. Its something that had appealed to me in the past.

There's a chap on the ITR forum that does it in his DC2, that car is a bit of monster though, 240bhp and I think he was aiming for sub 900kg!

I even made the local paper today!! It makes a change that a Tin top driver gets a mention (normally it is the single seater brigade that get the limelight)

Mind you I do normally beat most of the racing cars if it rains .........

Here is a couple of piccies

Just got back from another awesome event with the EK9, managed to smash another 1/2 second off the course-class record and lower it from 38.31s to 37.72s. My Daughter raced it to and broke her PB previously set with a lightweight stripped out Fiesta XR2 on slicks.

The car is now known as the Howling Honda.

Well 4 records 4 events with th EK9, I fly out tomorrow morning to meet up with the EK for a weekends racing in Alderney (small Island in English Channel) the car left on Tuesday on the cargo boat so hopefully she will be waiting for me when I get there.

Any how I will let you guys know how it goes at the Sprint event and the Hillclimb this weekend.

John.
