how much of a drop gives a good increase in handling without becoming a pain and scraping over every bump?

depends how fat you are ;) lol, seriously though it depends on how bumpy your roads are and how steep drive way entrances are.

im only a skinney wippet ha.there not to bad around here would a 40mm drop be fairley ok?

40mm isn't alot, will be fine

As a rule of thumb, try not to lower it enough so that the Lower control arms are past horizontal, otherwise the roll centre of the car goes way off and the car won't handle well in the slightest

I have heard before if you can stand a can of coke under the front bumper then you will clear most speed bumps etc.

Speedbumps are meant to be a maximum 100mm in height

Lowest point under my car is the H-brace at about 70mm from the ground

I can get over speed bumps no worries, just take them slowly

Think it's 570mm all round, that's running 195/50 tyres on oem wheels

Cheers man, running the exact same height/tyres/wheels myself, just wanted to see how I'd manage with an H brace. Good news!!
