Ignition upgrade

Is there any way other than changing from the distributor on a b16a2 to a performance coil set up? Ignition is maxed out so need to upgrade but want to know if there's any performance dizzy's or something along those lines before I get robbed by funky power for the coil module etc? Thanks!

Well it's been along at phq being mapped and he told me it was beginning to det due to the ignition not being able to cope?

Nothing special really. B16a2 (no internal work), hondata s300, aem fuel rail, aem fpr, 330/440cc injectors (really couldn't tell you, no history for them and don't have access to the car), skunk2 inlet, 2.5" 4-1 manifold, 2.5" decat system and a vortech supercharger. He got it to 315-320bhp before having to back off a bit because of the det worries so it's now 305-310 (no flywheel figure!). Not even looking for more power really, but the mapper told me that it's still a tiny bit lean up at the limiter, and I just want to be safe really!

Nothing special really .... a vortech supercharger ... 315-320bhp...

Nothing special? Modest... :D

If it's running lean surely you need more fuel, not better ignition?

Compared to some of the amazing turbocharged or n/a ones I've been reading on here today it's not  Well that's what I thought, and he did say the injectors were running 97.5% of their max as well but he could adjust the fpr to compensate that, but the ignition needs upgrading? Really don't have the foggiest idea unfortunately :/

Well I'm not an expert, but I would be addressing the fuelling issue before looking at the ignition. Bigger injectors and another map perhaps, I was tought not to run injectors over 80% but then people do strange things and make them work so that might just be an old timers' advice.

you have hondata S300, they do an add on that allows you to run coil on plug ignition....!!

Good power that, what boost is it running? got to be careful on the stock liners how much pressure you are running

I was going to say, the stock setup is more than capable for 400 odd hp, as you know the injectors are way beyond there limit, i would change these asap.

What boost are you running to obtain them figures? Thats a serious amount of power for the setup, from PHQ heartbreaker dyno:wow:

Aye, bigger injectors are definitely on their way. Just need to find out what I have already and buy accordingly
Steven, that's what I've been looking at on funkypower but it would set me back a fair bit! If needs must I suppose :( It's running 0.8 bar so nothing too drastic for the stock internals :)
Aye Murray I'll definitely get then bought and see what it's like after mapping! It's not entirely the standard set up due to a custom shorter pulley, but apart from that it's nothing out of the ordinary! Didn't realise phq's dyno came with that rep, kinda worried now
Thanks for the advice fellas :)

How old/new is the ignition system (leads, rotor arm, cap)? What plugs, are they gapped correctly?
My car runs .8 bar at the top end, and its fine? Mind you if that is wheel power quoted above you are running a bucketload more power than mine.
I had my car mapped from Russ aswell:nice: certainly knows his stuff and takes time to explain things, if your there obviously:lol:

That's a very good question! The answer to which is probably old  although the car has done 54k so not high to Honda standards! Wouldn't do any harm replacing them unless I can find receipts! Russ was happy with the gapping so I'm guessing yes  I'm guessing that new injectors is the best port of call :). I wish it was wheel power  yeah he's damn good at what he does mate :)

Aye get new ignition components in there, boost needs a good spark. Also injectors, the ones you have are way to small. thats probably why you are detting up the top.
Pretty sure i have 550s kicking about, surplus to requirments

That's next on the ever growing list then! Yeah I can see they are too small now  how much mate? :)
