I'm 16 years old and i should be getting my car around september of this year. What should i look for when buying the hatchback civic? And is it worth buying?

There are defo worth buying!! I don't think any of would be here if we didn't love our civics!

At 17 id go for a 1.4, insurance will **** you otherwise and its better to work your way up i think. When your young its easy to be a bit reckless in your car, and thats defo not a good idea when you have Vtec kicking in.

I started on a 97 1.4i initial and it was amazing, never let me down. Now im on an EK4 1.6 and i appreciate it so much more.

Defo get a 1.4 the insurance will be double the price of the car if you go for a 9 for your first car lol. I started off with a 1.4 and they are great little cars and very reliable, I picked up an old mobility car so was well looked after and never ragged :) get used to the power in that then work your way up and when you get a 9 you will love it even more! I've been driving for almost 10 years and the vtec still catches me out times lol

Oh and as said below rust arches and any dents round the rear, the visibility out the back of the car is ok but alot of people tend bump the rear arches or back end, probably cause civics were mostly driven by pensioners back when I got my one and their vision tends not to be great lol

i looked at civics they are expensive to insure, get a wank little 106 or something just to get a years no claims behind u and save for a nicer civic ;)

As J said, do what I did and buy a 106 1.1 or something like that. Then in a few years time once the old no-claims has built up and you've got a bit of money saved up you can go for a Civic vti or Type R. Also, you will have a few bumps and scrapes in your first car so don't get something too nice and expensive.

I built a civic ej9 when I turned 16, ended up standing about 8k by the time I was done but I loved every minute of it tbh and sold it when I turned 19 to go to uni. I'm driving a 1.0 lupo for when I'm back home every now and then and letting insurance run on to get another years no claims and I'll be building something special :).

i had an EJ9 as my first car when i was 17, £1200 to insure on my own policy.

What the actual fvck? that is insanely cheap. My 106 was £1650 on my own policy when I was 17, granted I was paying something ridiculous like £400 for a year on the Pug when I sold it. How much does the 9 cost you to insure then? 50p ;)

I'm putting it under my dads name, so insurance will be cheaper.

I was thinking around $2000 and then i'll just fix it up. and i cant get a 106, i live in Canada

I have a EJ9 1.4 for my 1st car the now and love it insurance is still a bit high but worth it just now until I can get my no claims up and afford a 9! :nice:

Makes me glad to be 37!

Both the ek4 and the Tuono are insured fully comp for under £300

Personally I'd run a bike / ped for a year whilst building my car ;)

I paid 1500 for my first years insurance on the ej9 but that was an any driver policy so anyone with a license could drive the car! Just got my renewal quote in for the 9 and only costing me 400 which I thought was not bad considering everyone I know has been complaining about theirs going up!

Best way to do it I think, that way you get to know about the car before you progress to one with more power!

There's no ek9's in Canada!! next year is when the 97 spec will be here, which will be more like 10g to 11g i would have been the first to buy one other then buying a ej6 an spending $15g trying to make it look like a ek9!!!

insurance will be the same, ej/ek doesnt matter some places wont insure you cause its a RHD!
