Iv been looking on trade car view website at ek9's to import myself and i have a few questions to people who have done it themselves.

1. How much does it cost to get it UK registered, ie km to mph and licence plates?

2. Should i go with getting it imported in containers or getting it with the roll on roll off which is a whole lot cheaper? but also could have alot of stuff stolen off it as its not secure??

3. Is there any places/websites people can suggest which are very good at getting cars imported safely/securely?

Thanks alot

Ben

well i cant answer the first one cos im from ireland but i got mine imported on the roll on roll off way and i had no problems no damage or notin stole (as far as i know) ....but the lads at the docks that take off the car do drive the shite out cars but only for a minute or so ... so i would say that your only paying extra on the container to make sure no one drives your car and for the second one i got my car off trade carview and had no problems wit them .........but i got one of my mates to do all the paper work for me so i dont know how much paper work there is to do
but he said that got the people to send him a recipt for cheaper than wat the car is worth so that the vrt would be cheaper or something lik that im not to sure tho hope that helped

ah kewl nice. yeh i thought whats the point in spending over a grand to get it in a container when you can spend 70squid!

Cheers mate at least i know trade car view got one person a ek9 lol.

Is your mate on this website?

O also the roll on roll off thing is only monthly i think so. how long did you have to wait?

Trade car view is like a auto trader website for dealers and private sales that people can advertise on. Stay clear of non dealer's and do back ground checks on dealers you have not heard of. Alot of people advertising up on that do not own the vechicles their advertising and are acting as a third party between you and where the car is really coming from so their charging a service charge that you could avoid. Also be wary of auction sheets, make sure the auction sheet you are viewing is for the car advertised.

Speak to John or Dave at Private Imports 2008 - Cars and parts from Japan

Im sure they do a Reduced cost service where they arrange everything in japan and once the car is on the boat thats where there part stops and you do everything from there...Collect it from the docks, Sva if need be, MOT, Register, Tax.

Might be worth a shot?

Hi
If you want one straight off the boat i could sell you one at a trade price.
As a general ruel add 50% onto the Jap value and thats about what it would cost registered in the UK.

How much does it cost you to get yours registered then?

What sort of price would it be if say i got a 97 showing for about £4500 in japan before import?

Thanks

am no he aint but dunsy or type r dunk on here seems to be the best for inporting cars expeccially mint ones

and i think i had the car in about a month but it depends when the boat leaves so you might get in lik two or three weeks if your lucky

I Don't import Cars. My Friends do though. thats who i suggested up there ^

Car is more likely to take anywhere upto 6 weeks to come from japan, If you can get a car here in 3 weeks PM me how! haha!

haha it must have been 6 weeks so i was just to excited about gettin my 9 that i lost all track of time haha lol

I've imported 2 cars myself, the car's themselves are pretty cheap in Jaoan in comparison but it is quite a pain to do everything yourself. Here's a quick list.

-put a deposit down with an auction site so you can bid
-Ask them to bid to a certain amount on a car you want
-once you've won the bid, pay the fees and stuff Japan side
-they put in on a boat and tell you when it will be at your desired port
-get sent all the documents you need
-pic the car up from the docks, pay shipping, import duty and tax
-insure it, mot it, register/tax it
-get some plates and your away.

That would be about £7000 to be safe.

kewl cheers dude, were would i look to getting in registered?

o and also would i have to do it before it gets to england? i know this seems like a stupid question i just want to be certain of what im doing?

If your unsure of what to do, it's not the best idea to do it yourself...you could get stung. Do lots of research on different sites and on the direct.gov site...or if you wan't it all hassle free and a guaranteed minter...Buy off someone like Type R Dunk.

where do you stand cost wise if you brought car in simply to break, wouldnt be registered/taxed, simply turn up at port and take away on trailer ? what costs involved in this scenario ?

id go thru a dealer in the uk,,there are many good importers with a good rep,id go thru them saves any hassel time and least you have some sort of come bk. with the dealer uk,as they offer 3month warrent and register and sva cars all the time
on another note im sure you would need to get hold of sva papers for the car imported as it wont pass without them

iv done it in ireland but not in the uk (yet) iv looked at it tho, you can get an importers pack of the dvla and that helps with prices, i presume its 15% duty on the value of the car(correct me if im wrong) sometimes they will fiddle a second auction sheet for u,then depending on year you have to look at the sva ( check their site), then plates and rear fog and that crap, dont get me wrong its is a hell of a lot of work if you dont have a man in japan... hope it helped a bit
