Hey guys, wanna check..

i m planning to get a oil cooler for my ek.
IF i do get a 13row oil cooler. the design is similar like a HKS oil cooler.

the question is, do i need to upgrade or change my oil pump??

do the stock oil pump is sufficient?

the stock pump is sufficient unless it's got some high mileage on it, in which case you should perform the major service interval and replace the

-timing belt
-tensioner
-waterpump
-oil pump

as they are all on the same side and in close proximity to one another.

oh.. jst to check if its safe..

cos i have got 2 answers...
lol yes n no..

jst got me worried..

no you dont need to change it, which unit are you buying? MFactory has a nice one :)

AIYAK.. demmit.. i forgot to snap a pic for u.

let me check with my fren if he has one.

so everyone CONFIRM dunnit to change oil pump if i add a oil cooler ah.

cos its quite scary when someone say the oil pressure not sufficient n can cause the engine to KO

here the pic.
its a HKS replica. n it has an optional oil temp gauge sensor. u can connect to it.

OH B4 anyone forget.

i m on a stock b16a engine. so stock pumps and all.. STOCK n not type R

You dont need to change your pumps.

Did you get an adaptor fitting for the sandwich plate? or will you be removing the factory donut cooler and blocking off the coolant ports?

It affects cranking pressures, i.e. takes takes a second or two longer to see full cold start-oil pressure.

Why do you need an oil cooler then?
is your car run on the circuit alot or is its engine highly modified? turbocharged?

the kit comes with a adapter itself. which u connect it to ur standard oil filter fitting, n den your oil filter connects to the adapter.

got it as a gift; and now need to check if installing it need to upgrade the pump or not.

in a month time, i might be joining my fren going to sepang circuit.

That kit is going to over cool your engine oil and cause more problem than good. Go for a good thermostat controlled adaptor, i,e, the one I use is from Mocal , it has a themostat allowing for proper oil temperature.

:nice: Good advice, and this is true that it may over-cool the oil, reducing the protection being given. Truth is.. unless its highly modified, the stock b16a or b16b even can be sat at redline in 5th on a long enough road for 1hour plus without overheating no problem!

Is your car modified?
My car is turbo, and since the turbo is lubricated by the oil pumping through the centre catridge.. it absorbs heat from the turbo hence heating the oil! thats why I had to go to an oil-cooler.

ohhh... thanks guys for the advice :)

my car isnt heavily modified, so from the above i guess.. hehe mebbe dunnit install lo, afraid it might cause even more problems

If the motor is equipped with a stock oil cooler...water to oil exchange unit...just opt for a larger radiator and ensure that the sides and top of the radiator are blocked off so air is diverted directly into the radiator.

An external cooler is not necessary.

Spoon has had success running enduros without ever using an external oil cooler. They just relied on their large capacity radiator and the stock oil cooler.

ohh.. really thanks for the info.

i already have a double din fully alu radiator installed.
so i guess tats more den enough already :)
