right, ive bought an ek4 last week as its one of my dream cars and i've been going around looking for insurance. went on gocompare.com and got stupid numbers as a named driver of £6k  which is defo a :nono:

so i tried calling skyinsurance but they only insure drivers aged 19 minimum or held their lisence for two years.

im 18 and ive held my lisence for 1 and half years.

is there any other insurance company out there which can give me a relatively decent quote. ive been told that its possible to get TPFT under my mum/dad for about £1.5k which im willing to pay.

help needed!! :((

that is the only way you will get insured matey

Is it a EK4 VTI,

Your parents are not allowed to be policy holders (FRONTING) and there only allowed as named drivers ;)

What do you mean by this?! I was a named driver on under my dad's insurance on my EJ8 1.6 SOHC Vtec for almost 2 years. Earned no claims as well, with Admiral!

ive been told about the £1.5k TPFT but cannot be found anywhere! ive called almost 60 insurance companies and its doing my head in! can you suggest a company?
are one off companys, private ones any good?

Stuff ringing them dude, they just either tell you they won't quote you, lie and say 'I'm sorry we don't do that sort of thing', or 'we don't do named drivers' etc etc.....where as they are money than happy to give quotes through confused.com!

I got quoted around £1500, but I rang them up and they said, 'no sorry, that quote must be wrong, it's £2000'.....so I said bugger off, went to confused.com and bought the policy from there for £1500 lol!

Just search around dude, it's effort, but it's the only way!

No point going specialist at your age, most places are 19 or 21 and over.

try admiral. i was 18 with a vti and payed £800 third party. in my name.

 Did you not think to look into insurance BEFORE buying the car?

X2!

Ideally you should have looked into insurance before purchasing.

look around for a while, consider upping your excess a lil (when i was 18-21 i was paying 700+ excess, 500 of which was compulsary)

Look into thirdy party only quotes, but if you go for this bare in mind if you mess up r car, you have to fund it to get it back on the road :/

Just buy a car you can afford to insure. There's a reason insurance companies price people out of cars, so IMO you just have to deal with it. I want to buy an S2000 but I can't afford the insurance, thats that. So I'll drive a car I can afford to insure properly until the S2k becomes affordable.

I was 18 when I took out the policy on my 1998 EK4, had 2 fault claims and insured it for £1200 fully comp in my own name with my dad as a named driver... Shop around mate, I'm with admiral give them a try, also bell have given me pretty good prices in the past :)

Funnily enough I had the same car, same insurance company and paid the same premium (or there abouts).

Just keep searching mate!!

try kwik fit they might give u about tft for about 3k in ur name

cheers guys, going to get a quote with admiral and i didnt think of insurance when i got the car as i didnt think i was going to be insured and bought it just for the sake of it. now realise i can get insurance so i might! :)

i had an ek4 vti when i was 18/19 with mods. I used elephant i think but i also find bell really cheap. depends where you live i think. My EK4 at the time was about 1.5K in my name, fully comp, mum n dad named drivers. Thru elephant i think.

QBE (probably never heard of them like me till i rang them)

Managed to insure me on a supercharged mx5 1.8 (jap import) Fully modified with kit alloys suspensin, supercharger, intercooler, etc etc etc (basically the full shibang)

with a history of 1 crash (full right off) and 3 points at the total cost £1650 at the age of 20. Other companies were wanting between 5k to 7k lol. Just dont take there first offer, say you got a few more companies to ring then ring them back saying you found it cheaper (not much but a bit - i said like 50quid or so more cheaper) and they generally beat it.
