Hi guys,

Going away soon, so don't have time to take my car to the garage at the moment, so looking for some pointers.

Yesterday I took the car out and tried to change into 4th gear but it wouldnt go in, it was really hard and if I tried to partially slot it in, it would make a grinding noise.

Sometimes 3rd and 5th are sometimes are hard to engage also, this probably happened around 3-4 times on a 20 mile drive today.

When parked up, car off and in neutral, gears are selected fine, with or without the clutch engaged.

Any pointers guys?

Clutch, gearbox...heard of slave cylinders, master cylinder?

Thanks.

Could be a number of things really mate. When was the last time the gearbox oil was changed? Could also be synchros or even clutch/slave cylinder or linkages

the ring ontop of the syncro or syncro could b ****ed

Change the MTF and see how it goes , but it may well be worn syncros. /sleeves/forks

If it engages reverse ok that will rule out master/slave cyl. problems.

Got back off holiday yesterday and just drove the car, suddenly gears went loose. Can't get 1st, it's going into 3rd, can't get 4th but no 5th or reverse.

Took into a garage and he had a look under it and fiddled around. He said it is not he linkages and he thinks a pin inside the box or something has gone. He never mentioned anything of the above but he did look into the engine bay too.

Should i get a second opinion? Bit of a pain driving around in 3rd and 4th.

Oh, doesn't get reverse now either. Was driving fine all day today swell then just went.

Its gonna be cheaper to just purchase a new transmission then rip it apart and get it fixed. Especially when you have to pay for labour.
