im trying to think the best way to explain this???

all exhausts have wire wool/fibreglass wool/coke blocks etc as a sound deadning/emission material, but it should be inside the back box it self and not in the pipe, if that makes sense

but no it shouldnt be in the pipe that isnt normal.

is it a brand new exhaust???

yeah i understand :), nah it isn't brand new, looks like i'll have to get my money back

Does the "steel wool stuff" come out while driving? Is any of the stuff over your rear bumper or that?

You could remove the steel wool and shine a light into the box to see if the baffle tube is starting to brake up and release it packing, just any idea if it helps?

That looks like something the rally boys do to make their exhaust quieter to pass noise test. They just ram wire wool up the back box. The baffeling material in the box might be shot and have lost its deadening abbility so they probably just ramed that wool up there to quieten it down again. I would pull it out and see how laud it is then is the box sound shot i would be deffinatly getting my money back.

yeah, pull this little bit out, if the packing material is starting to come away/break up, you will see more of it when you push the car hard (from the increased exhaust pressure). If so, then the exhaust is shot and I'll be asking for a refund.
