Today was "prep to build" day for me.
Basically I've set about cleaning everything and putting Pistons/rods/rings together ready for assembly.
I've worked a real meticulous method this time, new motto is "if it's not in my hand, it's in a bag" idea behind this is too keep contaminants to an absolute minimum by sealing all parts in their own bags once they are cleaned/aren't being used. Fresh latex gloves after every piston/rod assembly, cleaning the cap of the assembly lube after every use and a final wipe down with a brake cleaner soaked microfibre before bagging should ensure a clean assembly!(I hope)
Work station
I've had to reuse my old piston rings(only 500miles on them) not the best situation but waiting 4-5 weeks for another set isn't an option, I'm hoping I'll get away with this but time will tell.
Since the blocks been honed again piston ring end gap is going to be alittle larger than before combined with the extra wear the new hone will have on the ring faces could have an effect. We'll see.
This is the water after simply washing two sets of piston rings(two Pistons worth) and then spraying them and the rods with brake cleaner. Plenty dirty aye! Needless to say this was replaced with fresh for the next two!
Took me the best part of 2 hours to get to this stage.
Cleaned up the Morosso sump and other engine parts all bagged up ready to go for tomorrow!
Plan is to get the bottom end built up and sealed off again, prep car for trackday that evening then pull engine out later this week. Clean up the dc2 head and install that on the new block. Install early next week and be all ready for japfest2 with a run in forged block!
Abit of a mission but doable.
More updates tomorrow no doubt.
