Jimbobs' B18c EK9 Hondata Tuned + VIDs

I think you need to pilot a B18C EK9 Dan, because your never going to believe without having a go in one :D

no no no, gee...............

Read my post again, Im not doubting the B18, im just saying that the clocks before and After the "Hondata" tune look pretty much the same. But the dyno read around 30-40BHP more with the tune.

And im thinking surley that much BHP there would be a massive gain in acceleration?

I just wana know JIMBOBS opinion on it, Weather he actually thinks there is a very big gain in acceleration?

Just noticed,

After watching the clocks time and time again you actually hit 40-160KPH in around 10 seconds BEFORE AND AFTER the hondata tune??

To be fair it looked just as quick before, Maybe a tad less......

Whats your view on it JIMBOB?

I compared from 40KPH as you had launch control in one to help ull off and in the first video you didnt even rev off the line to launch so 40KPH looked to be a good spot to compare...

Well the befor vid is a rolling start & the after vid is a standing start!
I have just sat hear & timed the 2 vid's with a stopwatch & i get-
0-180kph befor 16.5 after 13.9
40-160kph befor 10.6 after 9.2
TBH i dont think the vid's do it justice, trust me my 9 is a lot faster & smoother!
Everyone of my mate's who come in my 9 quite often are shocked by the diffrence, i have been taking mate's out in it one by one all week & they all feel the same as me!
My mate who own's a B18 CRX came with me to WILL's & he like's the diffrence that much we are taking his car back to will next month for his doing!:secret:
Put it this way, my mate has a 300-320bhp MR2 Turbo & a week befor my remap we were out & i could not shake him at all (stright road's 30mph onward's) he just stayed an equal distance from me rite through the gear's!
Now i just pull away more & more, he dont have a chance anymore!:D

Gee you have been out in my 9 befor mate, how do you fancy meeting up over the weekend & then you could give you opinion on this?????

Mate i cant put into words how diffrent my 9 is now!
It accelerate's much faster now trust me!
Well i am booked in on my usual RR next thurs for a power run so we will have a true befor & after comparison :secret:

Hey Jimbob,

Can't do this weekend..getting my mounts done Sunday too.

Will be up for a little meet some other time though..maybe we can get a few together!?

lol,

Yeah i am still a tad sceptical as i am generally sceptic about most things until i have proof in front of me :)

But i am seeing the light now.

JUGBUGS, well i should have a B18C in my car relatively soon so i can judge then too... Then shortly down the line go for the hondata :nice: as those results are great and the way the clocks shoot up in JIMBOBS vid, thats impressive for sure. Looks nice and clean/smooth power.....

Looking forward to a meet soon too, wana see some of youz nice EK'S!

haha, well atleast its easier trying to get through a HONDA head rather than a SUBARU head! I was very skeptical too when I first thought about the 200cc difference. Not until I owned a DC2R after the EK9. Then DC5R was next. The difference was just very hard to swallow at first. I surprised myself when I hammered the pedal down. lol

I'm very surprised how quick you were to go for the B18C, did you find a 98spec? The 4.78FD, headport, b16b intake cam are the reasons for getting the 98spec engine over the 96spec.

Yeh Will really did damn well on the Tuning, the top end revved nicely all the way to the limiter. Amazing what PRO tuning can do.

Yeha I just love the low down torque on the K-series! Its just too easy to go fast. I'm very surprised at the fuel efficiency of the Ks, amazingly drinks slightly less than my B16B considering its 400cc bigger. B18C just drinks like its drinking beer!

JIMBOB:
yeh I knew you were holding back. Even your 1/4 mile time wasnt enough talk. So when are you going to increase another 200cc? Btw, according to the video, the bottom end seems to be quite hampered by the 4-1 header, it really lets loose from VTEC but with a nice TODA 4-2-1 and cam gears fitted you should be able to get MASSIVE 12whp+ bottom end - mid range gains as well as another 7whp+ top end minimum.

EK9dan:
are you still counting and comparing?

oh definitely, its a hard one to actually understand and to see but i suppose if soo many are saying it, it must be for a reason aie? :p

lol, Im one of the most spontaneous people you will know. I will make big BIG decisions on the spot from one minute to another. Thinking too much never gets people anywhere i believe :D

Yes its a low milage 98 Spec B18C, Should be picking it up end of this month and should be fitted a few days after that..... I hate waiting :naughty: lol

Fair play mate :nice:

Well to shift a 320BHP MR2 thats saying something!

B18C just drinks like its drinking beer!

Ill second the B18 drinking like it beer!
Dont think i will be going for the extra 200cc mate, i like the B18 too much!:D not to mention the cost involved for the extra 200cc! lol
WILL had mentioned the above to me, but im on limeted funds @ the mo due to my son being on his way! But i will still carry on moding as & when i have the funds!:nice:
For now i am more than happy with the way my car peforms!:drive:
Anyway thank you very much for your input jugbugz!:nice:

yeha I understand, congrats on the buy! You'll then understand why its the most wellworth and good value especially if you have a B16B to swap. No other mods on a 1.6 will give you the torque band of a 1.8. Gearbox mods only gives about 1/4 of what 200cc will give, ofcourse we are talking about real world street driving. My modded EK9 vs my Stock DC2R is solid proof.

Another thing to think about is the gearbox. Depending on your forsight and application, you could keep the b16b box and install a 4.785FD + change synchros later for one of the best allround ratio for street, track and drag. The 98spec B18C comes with the 4.78FD already but the 4th and 5th gear is longer.

If your intent is for a street car, the 4.78FD + B16B box is really good! I've both cars and the ek9 revs better from 4th gear whereas the revs bog down on the DC2R. Its a thought for everyone who does this kind of swap.

Congrats again and no probs mate! :nice:

Atleast you can rev safely to 9000rpm with the 1.8. Theres nothing not to love about the B18C. :nice: Lots of costs involved to get a B20 revving and realiable, not to mention how much more beer it will drink compared to 1.8. I'd wait and pay more for a K series and rev to 9000rpm instead.

Thanks for your input dude, much help :nice:

Hmmmm, the gearbox thing hs got me thinking now.....

I do have an option in which box i use, the ITR or the EK9....... Im not sure now that youve mentioned the bogging down...... Ive never really had a problem with the gearing on the EK9 to be honest, and i dont wana install ITR box to be unhappy :(

How much does it bog down? Im not gona have funds for gearbox mods for ages so the choice i make now will be on for a heafty long time...........

What would you do in my position? Use ITR or Keep EK9 box?

You think the few mods on the B18C including lightened flywheel will help with the bog chaning into 4th? as it will have better power? As appose to a stock B18C motor?

Sorry for the questions, if its prefered i will post in a different thread, dont wana High jack JIMBOBS thread.............

ITR box > Ek9 box

see here:

ratios 1 are EK9 Ratios 2 are 98 spec DC2,,,, :drive::drive::drive:

Dont worry about high jacking my thread mate, anything B18 related in hear!:nice:

As my mates getting his MR2 turbo rev 3 tommorow :secret: :drive: lol

U'l have some fun with him mate!:drive:

I want a B18C!

Get one droped in that stunning EK you got mate!:secret:

Talking about gearbox's mine has J4D stamped on it, wich with a little help from a member on hear i found this out!
1st - 3.23 - 40mph
2nd - 1.900 - 68mph
3rd - 1.360 - 95mph
4th - 1.034 - 125mph
5th - 0.787 - 164mph
F/D 4.4

But the speed's indicated hear dont seem to mach up with what my 9 run's!
But on where there is a barcode on our box's mine starts with S80!
So i check for this info!
1st - 3.23 - 37mph
2nd - 2.105 - 56mph
3rd - 1.458 - 81mph
4th - 1.034 - 115mph
5th - 0.787 - 151mph
F/D 4.785

So this has got my thinking that my gearbox is the S80 with the 4.785 F/D!
Anyone else got an opinion on this from whatching my vid????

But EK9dan if i were you i would use your EK9 S4C box as it has more potential in the long run by changing to a 4.7 or 4.9 F/D:nice:

Looking at the vids i reckon it could be a 4.7FD like my Teg:)

The ratios seem very similar anyhow!

Car goes very very well. Most impressed:nice:
