Jimmys Ek9 - b20 to k20 s/c build

Very nice Wazer. VeRy!

What FD are you running? Also if you dont mind me asking, what throttle body have you installed; size/make?

Regarding the Spoon monoblocks...I have tracked with them several times now. They are holding up very well. They are not as "good" as the Brembos that I have due to the smaller pad surface area. However, the Spoons are good enough for some serious track time, dont get me wrong. The smaller pad size does get to temp much faster. There seems to be a weird getting to temp stage, with my setup, which seems to loose brake response/fade, but them comes right back [carbotech xp8 pads are what I am using]. It might be the disks getting up to proper temps??? IDK, Very weird. Anywho--you are going to love your new calipers.

Touching on what stevenEK9 said about smaller disks, even with your new smaller setup, you will be hard pressed to over heat those disks with your weight/power car. Ive yet to activate the 2nd of three color strips on the disk, for heat. :))

Running a 5.062 fd mate, I certainly don't mind one bit - it's a HR 70mm butterfly tb which tapers out to a knife edged 76mm at the intake, this combined with the Karcepts 70mm RRC adapter plate.

I'm yet to test mine to their full capability to be honest as I've only driven it when it's very wet, with lots of aquaplaning on the semi's. I'm tempted to take her out now but I think I'd rather just wait till track (as tyre temps will be higher so then I can accurately comment on how the braking power is).

Ditching the ABS was a good idea to, although I still need to setup the bias - again I'd rather do it when temps across the front/back are up to track temps.

I'll let you know If I experience anything similar though, does sound pretty strange though! I'll be happy if it's damp, standing water and these tyres are pretty sketchy as I found out sunday evening :nono:

worth noting also that it is a RRC inlet manifold port matched to the TB :nerv:

the gearbox with the 5.062FD and spoon LSD is amazing, if only i could have it back for my EP3........... :p

the bias is easy to setup, i went out for a good thrash on the road running race pads / 300mm race brembo's / R888's....... once you've been hard on the brakes a few times you can feel yourself if the rear brakes are doing F-all and need a bit more of the bias, wee turn of the adjuster and try again etc

be good to meet up at KH early next year, see how the car compares with my M3 - seeing as this is the engine that was in mine it is the closest comparison i will ever get

Look forward to watching that video when I get hime from work! Whats the difference between your monoblocks than the twinblocks from spoon? They bigger/better stopping power?

Hows the new setup felling compared to your old b20?

Not sure on the piston sizes/specs, I imagine they are the same - but probably wrong there. Monoblocks are for the Ep3s, S2000 and Dc5 etc, with twinblocks being for Ek9s, dc2s.

I think you can run bigger discs with the monoblocks, but am not 100% sure there.

The stopping power is amazing to say the least in such a light car, I tried to lock up the brakes later on in the day and couldn't - no matter how hard I stomped the tyres wouldn't give, even with abs removed.

The new setup is lovely though, really quick up to about 110, but lacks the 'oopft' in 6th though - only just touch 6th on the straights at KH.

Handles far far better than the previous setup, however I felt I was struggling to get heat in the rears (wear pattern was OK though and I dropped pressures from 26>24 then to 22), I wasn't suffering with any oversteer at all - probably should of pushed harder.

Having said that, it was my first session, need time to adapt as I feel it has much more potential.

Well the monoblocks are for EP3/ DC5 which do have bigger brakes than the EK9/ DC2. I was going to get spoon brakes at one point but went against it for the time being. I wasn't too sure on them but when I did a bit of reading about, folk tend to say that they do not bite as much as other after market calipers so it seems to be more about finessed braking so you are unlikely to lock up. That's what I read up on anyway, and a lot folk didn't seem to like how it didn't bite as hard as they expected. Enjoyed the video tho!

Very nice Wazer!

Cheers pal, first few mins were sorta warm up laps as I prefere to gradually build it up.

Sweet info ally, I felt I did have to press quite firmly in the end. To be fair I think you're right about the finesse braking there.

I think they bite pretty well with ds2500's though, the shorter straight I was slowing from 100-105 to about 32-36 pretty quick when I got used to brakes - still need brake later tho! haha

Brakes and car power, you have a very nice balance now.
:nice:
Its like having an unfair advantage out on track, right?!?!

they are twinblock calipers that Wazer has fitted, if you look at the pics you can see the split in the middle of the caliper. did they make custom brackets to enable you to run 298 discs? as those calipers are designed for the oem 282's

had a scan of the video, some interesting choices of gears!! what's the rev limit set at? you seemed to be changing gear quite early alot of the time, no way you should need 6th gear at knockhill with that box!! fastest you will get on the straights is roughly 120 once you carry some proper speed through the corners with the slicks

should be rapid round there with a bit more practice (on full slicks it is easy capable of 58s i would say) - bit smoother / don't feed the wheel / use more of the revs & the track and you will be laughing

Rev limit is at 8400 iirc, gps speedo is saying between 109-114 usually on the straights and about 34-38 at the hairpin - but I know im still braking far too early. Need a steering wheel with a lesser dish and maybe a 320/330mm wheel so I have more room, too close to the cage atm.

Was trying to make it as smooth as I can, pretty crazy at the best of times.

Dunno how I did it... but this happened today - thought the clutch died until I started pushing and could hear a noise every now and again. :(( I'm sure they were near new DSS shafts.

stage 0 so the entry level shafts - with the plate diff and full slicks :(( be worth speaking to R-motion and asking what they run on their race cars

350 is a perfect size with PS removed, you may struggle with tight corners with a smaller wheel - or hit the gym more :p

not feeding the wheel is about the best thing you can do to improve smoothness and helps you relax behind the wheel! first time the car has been out in a while, plenty time for improvement, that's what keeps it fun eh!

They weren't a fan of the diff/slicks - haha. Spoke with R-motion, sadly out of driveshafts though. Got a set of 2.9s coming though, thought I may aswell as I may consider to rotrex charge it in the near future lol!

I may just try a wheel with lesser of a dish first, if not then ill trial fit a 320/330 one - Or just take them to KH with me next.

Doubt Im gonna get it out again now. Decent clean, garage then tinkering :D

aye that's the good thing - very easy to change out the wheels if you do fancy trying another!

Too cold and wet this time of year now for knockhill - m3 is sketchy as fook at the moment with the cups and will be coming off the road shortly.....

CSL rep airbox is on order, half cage, harnesses, light flywheel to come - we can do battle come spring time :nerv:

Indeed! Ha, you're not wrong there! So sketchy with near full slicks on + standing water lol :nono:.

Love your M3 man, sounds awesome and looks the nuts! :nice: Will look forward to next year, although April-Aug I wont be about as I'm away with work.

I'm sadly looking at rotrex supercharger kits already??!?! dafuq :nerv:

It would indeed! Will see how things go before i go on det. Its always on my mind though.

Hmm, from memory i remember buying the recaro sliding rails and ally side mounts. Yeah they are a little expensive, but no point cutting corners on safety ;)

Hope this helps!

low boost rotrex will be bonkers

what seat rails are you using out of interest buddy

that shaft looks pretty sad :(

haha, its seen better days! The new dss 2.9s are holding up well though (thank god)!

With our ring trip booked end of June, I've decided to change a few things anyway; add a new 19 row oil cooler, usual service, some daily type wheels and tyres (saves me ruining the CR311's), new bonnet, new base plate and a lovely jubbly wing. :D

Look forward to more pics of this beast! Hope the wings a J's item...:) Would be nice touch.
