i have finally discovered from playing around with different types of filters, that with any car you will get best top end VTEC power (free-er flowing air) with any form of open air filter - (the least restrictive option obviously). To get the best low end power (better throttle response and low range pull when pulling away from traffic lights etc) you want an enclosed system that extracts air from a cool location. The downsides? With open air filter you get heat soak - i.e. lack of throttle response and low end pull. With an enclosed filter you get top end restricted airflow - slight power restriction in VTEC. Which style to go for? There are slight variations of the two, however it all depends on what you want what suits your requirements. I tried several solutions and decided i would rather put up with heat soak and sacrifice the low end power BUT have that BRUTAL VTEC crossover kick/pull/scream!! thats what the VTEC is all about Of course you can go for AEM CAI style solution where you get the benefit of all worlds, but there is that small chance you could sacrifice your engine if the worst happens lol
As a general overview, i would say Jokeshopbeard has addressed all the issues very well with his solution and could probably make alot of money with his blueprints!!
