Item: j's racing 70rr titanium 2/1 b pipe and back box
Fitment: dc5
Condition 5/10 needs a repair
Location: Plymouth
Price: £450
Description: needs no introduction, 70rr is the ultimate exhaust for the dc5, unfortunately this one has had a battering due to the car being so low. The b pipe has been flattened as the dc5 has no centre channel and after a unexpected speed bump it now has a crack and a small hole in the b pipe, have been quoted £150 for the repair but have decided to go custom made 3" instead. The whole system weighs 6.4kgs compared to 24kgs standard you won't believe how light
Mid silencer has been repacked at some point too. This system retails at £1800

£150 for the repair?

did they know it was titanium?

i was getting insane prices to weld my 60rs and it has only a very small crack around where the mounts weld to the pipe.

Aye I agree with leek9,

To weld titanium you need to immerse it in argon, i dont mean just with a shroud, i mean the WHOLE product, so you can bet your bottom dollar that costing alot more than 150 for repair.

Not quite true but close, the tube would have to be back purged and cleaned very well ( like and decent tigged exhaust). If the guy repairing it has access to titanium filler wire I don't see why it would cost a lot more that a stainless tig repair.

The rods were £75 and £75 from Alan welding in Plymouth feel free to confirm these prices

its not impossible to fix but the gauge is so thin that you need a tig welder with a very large current range so you can get amps low enough not to blow holes in it instead of fixing holes lol....

you can also get small collectors that fit around the head that will mostly encase the weld pool in argon with a higher flow rate from the head of the welder

my last word on it would be to get it fixed yourself and sell it on for good money as its not worth much in its current state bar me wanting to buy the wicked axle back piece and blue tacking it onto my car somewhere haha

bump if yu decide to sell the axel back let me know would be nice to fit this on my dc2 lol
