Hi all, I need some help with a new modification for my EK.

CUrrently it is the S4C hydro tranny B16A, fitted with a Kaaz 1.5 way LSD. I hear people say that the type-r helical is not bad and great for daily driving. I have been using the kaaz lsd for a year now seems ok but i need to fit a 4.785 final gear from an integra type R 98+ spec. Apparently the final gear won't fit.

So the question is, is it worth fitting a 4.785 over a 4.4 ?
Will a helical LSD perform worse than my current Kaaz 1.5 way?
Since the gears being brought are already disaassembled from the Type-R housing, how do i tell if the final gear is actuall 4.785 and not 4.4?

I need to swap over the 1st gear as well, but how about the 4th and 5th gear?

I need this confirmed also. I have an oem S4C box on my EK9 with a Kaaz 1.5 way plate type diff.

Have had different opinions saying the 4.785 will fit and others saying it wont.....

+1 I'd also like to know, I've got a Y21 box with a Cusco 1.5 way LSD, contemplating fitting a 4.785 FD!

The codes themselves don't necessarily mean much in this regard. You have to know exactly where (which car) the transmission originated from.

-EK4_SiR: You can use the 4.785 from the 98spec, if you use the LSD and final gear along with the 1st gear. All other gears do not need to be changed. DO NOT change to the taller 98spec 4-5. It will make your car fall flat on its face.

You can determine if the final drive is 4.785 by counting the teeth on the ring gear. Stock is 66 teeth, 4.785 is 67 teeth, 4.9 is 69 teeth

Honda Junkie: The 4.785 will fit as long as you have the complete first gear, distance collar and needle bearings. Otherwise you will have to order them.

Josh88: Which car was the Y21 originally from?

Ragingangel - thats great. I was thinking of changing over th 5th gear for motorway cruising, but thinking about it, how many motorways is there in Hong Kong??!!!
I counted the teeth on the final gear, it is 67 teeth, do i need to change the pinion gear as well?

Nice onec cheers mate! :nice:

I just did mine, it fits with some shims to place the diff in the correct position so it does not move side to side. Changed the 1st gear and final drive set as well.

Oh, just a note, if you have a Kaaz LSD, you need to change the Kaaz VSS to a Civic VSS.
