Hey guys, I need to pick your brains about lcd tv's.

Basically I'm looking to order a 22inc lcd tv asap, but I'm a little unsure as to which one to go for really.

I was swaying more towards buying a samsung, as I already have a samsung 32 inch lcd tv, which has been great in the 10 months which I have had it for i.e. no faults what so ever and the picture quality is amazing etc.

However, others have suggested I go for an LG instead, as they come with a higher spec than the samsungs, in terms of 22 inch tv's?
I have around £200 to spend, so would appreciate any input from you guys as to which one I should go for, or any others you would recommend:nice:

Here are the choices so far:

Samsung:
Samsung T220HD 22-inch Widescreen LCD TFT Monitor, Rose: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

LG:
LG M227WDP 22 inch Wide Monitor with Digital TV Tuner: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

LG 2:
LG 22LH2000 22-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Thanks

okay, many of you know that i am obsessed with and know loads about cars but if there is one thing i am more passionate about its electronics my friend.

okay, here we go:

First lets get the basics, there are 3 different types of panels:
-TN
-IPS
-PVA

You can learn about them on your own using google but i will be simple about it. It sounds like you will be using this as a television, if so what you want is IPS or PVA, problem is they are VERY expensive, however Samsung recently introduced some VERY low priced high quality PVA panels in the size range you are looking at:

Newegg.com - samsung cpva

I would highly suggest one of those two, LG does not currently make an IPS or PVA panel in that size but LG does make some of the best IPS panels out there, there smaller panels are typically TN which are still good but do not have the color accuracy or viewing angle of a PVA or IPS panel.

If you are going to use this primarily as a computer monitor then you may be happier with a TN panel, LG or Samsung make excellent panels and you will be happy with either.

blinx is there anything you dont know !!!:)

I am a man of many talents, I'm still waiting for someone to ask a home theater question so i can bust out the info on that :naughty: Or perhaps relationship advice? I am your go to guy lol :woot: I am very precise, when i am interested in something or before i make a purchase i research on it as if its life or death and luckily i retain about %80 of what i read :D I just hope my brain will not run out of space haha!

Thanks for the info Blinx.
Your correct, I'm only planning to use this as a TV, to hookup to sky+ hd:) - Its for my girlfriend, so it will only be used for this purpose really.
The Samsung monitors you posted look pretty impressive.
From what I understand, I could get one of those samsung monitors and hook it up to her sky+HD box, and it would work ok?.
However if we wanted to use the monitor in another room without a sky box (but with an outdoor tv aerial fitted), it would not work because it has no freeview / digital tv tuner built in?

Bloody hell blinx, you're brain is like an encyclopedia!!

Correct, that is one of the downsides, also consider there are no built in speakers. If this is just for your girlfriend, for casual viewing then i would suggest you get one with a digital tuner and speakers, LG is what i would chose, I know there 26" and up typically use IPS panels but i have no idea what type of panel the smaller samsungs use also not all LG's are IPS, many are TN.

For the panels i listed she would hook them up using a DVI to HDMI cable.

lol, thanks jokeshop :)

Cool. Just one more thing Blinx. Do you know if all LGs have AV mode?(its called E.Mode on my samsung).
It basically allows you to have 3 different picture presets i.e. 1 for video games,1 for movies and 1 for sport.

I know the second LG I listed has it, I was just wondering if it was a feature on all of them.

I doubt it, as i have seen some lower model Samsungs have far less adjustability, perhaps go to a large electronics store and see if can play with a display model to see if it has it or check LG website, perhaps there will be more information?

Ok Thanks.I'm going on the hunt for one tomorrow so I'll keep you posted.

I'm gonna go for one of the LGs I listed, but I'm not too sure whether to go for the better picture quality of the M227WDP or whether to get the LH2000 which has the special AV mode feature, but the picture is not as good as the M227WDP.
Decisons decisions:confused:

Then why don't you post your home theatree in another thread? :D I will do that too if you open a thread like that. Btw: I've got a Parasound on sale, interested? :p

haha, well I'm not into it like i used to be, a lot of my stuff is old but you know quality speakers no matter the age will always sound quality, the majority of my stuff is at my moms house in her garage as i just rent a tiny room these days :( I used to have a crazy setup with a power amp running 2 cerwin vega AL-1000's but i blew up the amp :( then my backup pioneer reciever went bad, then my Yamaha reciever went bad, now i just run a Denon, it's not what i want but i picked it up very cheap. When i get my own place i just want a Yamaha (made in japan not china one) reciever with some paradigm reference speakers.

High end stuff is beautiful but it just gets soo expensive i can't justify spending thousands on 1 speaker etc...

I may have to start researching big ass TV's. My brother called me today and had the gal to ask me if I'd go in with him and his wife on a new flat panel for my parents for Christmas. I had to remind his dumb ass I don't have a job but that don't mean I won't help him pick one out.

i think buy the sansung t220hd and you can do anything you like
there is buld in speakers, you can wacth all free channels(analog or digital with airial), you can conect your pc or your ps3 with hdmi input, there is com i/p and video i/p
the qulite of pic is perfect
my work is fix tvs and untill now no proplem with this model

I'm for plasma all the way. Fast, incredible blacks compared to LCD and very lively colors.

plasma and lcd are both great as well as the newer led, each have there intended purpose and work great in there given environments.

Yeah. It's pretty much a matter of what is the most important to you when watching movies/tv. And you should decide to go for plasma or lcd depending on your priorities. Though the user manual of my Panjasonic plasma warns for burn in, so I don't really watch tv with it, to prevent burn in of channel logo's. But I don't know how relevant it is with newer generation LCD's.

By the way, there is a plasma counterpart for LED LCD: Neo PDP.

I've got the LG M227WDP, can't fault it in anyway...It's much better than other 22" LCD's I've seen.
