hi lads i do rallying here in ireland and i drive a ek4 rallycar with a standard b16a2 engine, the only real mod i have is a gear kit a shorter 3rd/4th/5th its a mighty job.i want more power,id like to have 190-200bhp and i was wondering have any of ye got any ideas?i was thinking a mapable ecu, throttle bodies and a good exaust manifold-something along that line.thanks in advance for any ideas lads.im fairly flexable with my budget i have 2000-3000euros maybe a bit more.

Does it need to be road legal or any restrictions?

what final drive have you got?Throttle bodies dont work great on the b series engines as they are at the back of the engine bay.The best would be get a very good exhaust system (the bigger the better) and a good ecu and mapper.Where abouts in the country are you man??

if i were you i would look at breathing mods exhaust manifold decat and then go for a good remap! You should see significant gains if you go from standard set up to this!

ive a 4.4..im in cork, would you recomend any good exaust, and an ecu?

To make that kind of power(on a realistic dyno) you will need to build your bottom end and fit some after market cams. I think it will be tight to cover all costs on your budget. Here is a rough estimation of costs involved.

Pistons ~500euro
Bore+Hone to fit oversized pistons ~300
Cams+springs ~1000
Headstuds ~120
Gaskets+Bearings ~300
Engine management+ Tuning, anywhere from 600 to +1000 depending on EMS.
Exhaust system ~600-800 includ. manifold.
New oil pump- 160

I'd also recommend fitting a ITR intake manifold+throttle body for this setup. The prices above are for parts alone so if you can't do the work yourself you will have to factor in labour cost. You would be looking for pistons to give 12.0:1 -12.5:1 CR. and for cams something along the lines of Skunk2 Pro 2 cams. This setup should see you 200bhp

I have a 4.9 in mine and find it brilliant there is loads of low down power and torque with it.Get a good manifold probably best with something like 5zaigen,Toda or J's Racing and then a decat and cat back the wide the diameter the better imo.You could get a full race spec exhaust made either, there would be not restriction with it.Aidan (eg6-r off here) got one made for his dc2 and he seen big bhp gains and the welding on it is easily the best i have ever seen. When it comes to ecus I would say Neptune or Hondata, depends really if you want data logging or not, and I would highly recommend Vtec6000 for mapping. He also does alot of work on rally cars so you would probably be best to chat to him he wont sent you wrong.Let me know how you get on or what yea decide anyways man

My car made a proven extra 6bhp and 5torque with the mugen rep DC2 airbox.

Mine is for sale in the sale section on this forum as Im buying a house and am forced to sell a few bits to help out

With my bolt-on mods and a P28 remap my internally standard b16b made 204bhp and 131 ft lbs :nice:

In your opinion, if the lad is having to stay 1600cc, would you recommend swapping a B16B in and tuning that in the same way you mentioned?

£700 would get you a reasonable condition 16B that you can strip down and rebuild with better pistons, the cams and valvetrain can be sold for £250ish to fund some aftermarket ones and then you have the various associated B16B benefits over the B16A for less than £500. Starting with a 180bhp base engine he's only got find 10-20bhp instead of nearly 40 with the B16A, surely a little easier?

Don't know if it is the best route, but it would be the way I would (was) going...

Yeah that's a option but b16a's sell for like 300euro over here and there a very capable engine once you select parts wisely:nice:

was that over standard airbox or what??
