so basically i was gonna insure my ek9 but me being 19 still gonna cost 5000 soooo. crx esi delsol or mx5 1.6 probably 90bhp version. so crx has more power but mx5 i could be going sideways which i really wanna try so its a toughy! both cost roughly the same and are same to insure. opinions?

You won't be going sideways in a 90bhp MX5 unless you've got downright dangerous tyres fitted on it.

I struggle in mine and it's probably closer to 140bhp.

tons of people been going sideways in there mx5s with some mild mods that would make near enoigh no difference, engine mods that is, planning to sit it nicely on some coilys that'll make a good difference :) just want to have some fun with it

Have you checked the insurance on an mx5 if your 9 is 5k?

Are they 90bhp ones though?

Crappy tyres and cheap, very low suspension will help in losing traction though. The ditchfinders on mine when I bought it were great fun. The Uniroyals are annoyingly good... :(

I wouldn't bother with the 90bhp one mate. They're all UK spec and our 116bhp is the least power you'd want cause it's not exactly quick! You can get it sideways quite easily in the wet but not in the dry, they're not best for drifting as the weight balance in nearly 50/50 so by the time you begin to lose grip you also get a bit of understeer. Makes for a great little track car though!

a few of them were yes! i was amazed myself! haha yes i bet, just wanna chuck it around not going pro in it man, just see if i find the nack for it if so may get something a tad more powerful. i take it youd say mx5 over crx then?

All that being said, imports are quite a bit on insurance for what they are, well ours is more than my ek4 anyway

i prefer the look of the jdm ones but because there import there more to insure and also cause of the higher hp. still a step from my 1.0 corsa!! aha. just wish i could insure my 9. chuck it in my garage for a few years and have some fun with a mx5 i suppose :(

Definitely. Kicking myself that I didn't trade my EK in for one sooner. :nice:

On the ther side of the coin. I had a delsol SIR and out all the hodas ive owned i miss it the most. It had Zeal coilovers on and the OEM lsd option i was amazed how well it handled compared to ek's ive owned. The seating position and the way the dash surrounds you made it feel like a go cart to drive. Also the roof (when it worked) was awsome down with the windows up you werent even cold whatever the weather. And when it was up it didnt feel tinny and rattley as most convertibles do. It had a b16a though so cant imagine it would be as fun with a d series.

Imo they look miles better than an mx5 if tastefully modified. They look shat in oem form with no lips etc. i have considered replacing my ek9 with one several times.

i agree they do look better as standard but once on coilys and some nice dish and lips i think they are on par, but after watched the keep drifting fun videos in youtube ( if you have not seen them check them out) ima have to go mx5
