Hello there everyone! After owning a CW EK9 and it being taken from me by a bunch of thieving scumbags i owned a glanza for several months:blabla: which to be fair was completely useless and i wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

I was busting a gut to get back into a Honda so when this came up for sale up the road from me I just couldnt resist. Only one piccy so far:(

and also a nice shiny decat but no pics as of yet.

So all going well i thought until something bad happened.....

Was coming back from lifting the fuel rail, 2nd gear+motorway sliproad = BANG just as i hit the vtec.:angry2:

Everything switched off and i pulled over to pop the bonnet. Had a nosey through the steam and seems there was oil literally "pissing" out of the bottom end. Aww crap i thought ive blown the engine on my first vtec of the day!:drive:

So after a couple of hours and the AA towing me home instead of wallowing in my self pity and getting really drunk a quick text message revealed that the fella i bought the fuel rail off had a B18c freshly pulled out of a teg.:win:

Happy days!!

So my mechanic pulled the sump off the car to reveal this

He tells me the crankshaft is all but shattered, as seen above, and the fourth piston is a gonner.

So on with the stripping and the car has nearly everything disconnected and is waiting for the B16 to be just lifted out and the B18 dropped in!

Obviously all my extra bits will go on the same time as the engine along with a 98 spec mani but I cant help thinking that i should be doing some work to it before i put it in. Obviously itll be getting the red leads, new plugs, oil and fuel filter, fresh oil and a timing belt but is there any other, internal or external, work i should be carrying out to ensure everythings fine?

Also how the hell do i get the front bumper bolts off under the front arches. Its really irritating me and i dont wanna go breaking things.

Thanks for reading and ill be updating this as i go with pics and more writeup.

Lovely ek9 mate! but thats a dull one what happenend to your engine, wot the hell caused it to happen? quite good you have a B18 for it though! :) good luck with it!

the front bumper bolts usually come of very easily mate! good luck, keep us updated! :)

Nice to see johnny ek9s back on the forum.
B18c in the 9 is purrfect!!
The black shines when clean right ;)
GL in the build

Might have just been unlucky with the motor, as it normally takes some severe negligence to kill a B-series...

Id get some new tyres on your shopping list too, Toyos are junk on an EK9. Too much sidewall flex!

Shame about the engine, Bonus about the B18 tho.

Sweet looking 9 anyways

Thanks for the comments guys.

Progress has been real slow this week with tryin to get my hours up in work to pay for the conversion! :(

Hopefully get things moving along nicely this week and get a timing belt+tensioner and water pump ordered first thing tomorrow with any luck.

good to see your back with honda :D

god jonny sold that at the right time! not to worry bud the b18 will be such
a great upgrade.
as far as doing work to it before fitting...if your not doing cams etc at least
do the valve stem seals just to be sure :secret:

who`s doing the work for you anyway bud?

eternal blue - Theres new valve stem seals already with the engine im getting so thats sorted. and a close mechanic friend is doing the work for me and ill be lending a hand whenever possible  so ill know itll all be done right. hes actually currently writing me a list of stuff im gonna need to fully rebuild the head as the engine im getting is split (head from bottom end)

As said above car will be getting the head rebuilt and the bottom will be getting everything tightened etc to keep it in good order so itll be good for years to come.

Well as it was a nice day today as the NI folk will have realised I thought why not strip off the bumpers, skirts, headlights(need resealed) in preperation for some WaxOyl and fixing of any rust. Ill probably be sending off some off these parts to SQ Design for a lick of paint while the cars off road!!

Out with the pics:

Headlights were removed after the picture below as i had a break for dinner:lol:

Most of the brown-ness in the pics is dirt rather than rust, or else id be worrying:secret: it should powerhose off nicely before the waxoyl.

Next bit to come out is the rear bench and seats and some custom carpet laid down (permanent) and the front seats and mats for some serious cleaning. Also front fenders need to come off for sorting a tiny bit of rust that has gathered on the passenger side:angry2:

Again all c+c welcome and if anybodys done this stuff before any advice would be appreciated, decided i may as well do this once and do it right:clap:

seen the pic of your old 9 on rms :(( ba$%@!ds left it in a very sorry state . not good about the b16b kicking the bucket but the b18 will make up for it .

beautiful car mate :D congrats.

Thanks for the comments guys, getting there slowly but surely. Few more updates to come...

Well 6 months on and to be honest after a lot of money spent on other things, changing jobs and crimbo etc ive finally got the B18C in and all my bits and bobs on :)

All bodywork that was removed and the rest of the shell has been freshly re-painted and any rust on the shell has been tended to. Really was quite minimal if im honest and a lot less than I was expecting so all good there. Just need to put everything back together again now!!

Anyway some pics of the engine fitted, unfortunately not running until I throw the JDM DC2 ECU in but heres hoping its all good! Engine had mid 60k on it so well pleased :)
